How to Prepare for your Session by je m'adore

YAY!!!! You're officially booked on the calendar! We are just as excited as you about this special experience and we can't wait to show you how amazing and beautiful you really are! Here are a couple of helpful tips to help you better prepare for your session.

A few days before your session:

  • IMPORTANT: try on ALL of your lingerie to make sure they fit well. Also, make sure that anything new gets WASHED before your session in order to minimize any potential dye transfer onto studio furniture/bedding.
  • Please cut off ALL TAGS from your lingerie. Much appreciated!
  • SLAP ON THE SUNSCREEN in the weeks/days before your session! Avoid sunburns and tanlines as much as possible (because they probably won't line up with your lingerie!). Retouching of streaks, tanlines and sunburns is not included in the standard retouching but available for an extra charge (which can get pricey if every image you intend to purchase needs fixed).
  • PLEASE stay away from tanning beds and DO NOT get a spray tan! Fake tans turn your skin ORANGE in camera. Trust me!
  • Make sure your eyebrows are nicely groomed.
  • Make sure your nails (fingers AND toes) are pretty. Polish suggestions: nude, neutral colours, or clear gloss. Dark colours work, just avoid bright, bold colours (like fire engine red, hot pink or neons). When choosing a colour, think about what lip colour you might go with (ie. neutral pink or deep red) or what colour would go best with the majority of your lingerie pieces.
  • You can do your own nails or get a manicure. You don't need a fancy manicure or long nails (unless you want to!) -- just as long as they have a bit of shine to them!
  • Drink plenty of water for luminous skin glow.
  • Lower your salt, sugar and alcohol intake to avoid being bloated or water retention.
  • Take care of any personal grooming: legs, armpits & bikini area. If you wax, please do so a few days beforehand to give the skin time to settle down. If you shave, please do so the day of the session. Use your skimpiest panty or bodysuit as a bikini area guide!
  • Don’t worry if you get any bumps or razor burn from shaving, it will get retouched.
  • Exfoliate & moisturize your face and lips.
  • If you're prone to DRY LIPS, never pull off the dry skin! Instead put Vasoline on them at bedtime then lightly exfoliate them with a clean, wet cloth the next morning.
  • I know you're excited but try to get a GOOD SLEEP!

On the day of your session:

  • After you bathe that morning, make sure to MOISTURIZE from head to toe (but nothing too oily that might transfer onto bedding or furniture please!)
  • Pay attention especially to those dry areas: heels, knees, elbows, etc.
  • Use clear deodorant.
  • Please arrive with a clean, moisturized face (no makeup) and clean, DRY hair (little to no hair products). NOTE: There is a additional $40 blow drying fee if you show up with wet or damp hair so please make sure you come with dry hair.
  • Please DO NOT use a heavy cream-based leave-in hair conditioner -- it might make your hair "heavy", greasy looking (if not fully rinsed out) and interfere with styling techniques. Light leave-in hair conditioner sprays are fine.
  • Air dry your hair OR dry your hair with a blowdryer/brush but DO NOT use a flat iron!
  • If you have a specific look in mind for your hair and/or makeup, feel free to bring it to show our stylist.
  • Wear LOOSE fitted clothing to avoid lines and red marks (no jeans, tight elastics, etc.) -- go braless if you want!
  • PLEEEEASE DO NOT WEAR SOCKS!!! Yeah, even if it's winter!
  • Eat something light but filling before you leave your home (eggs, yogurt, granola, oatmeal etc.) to give you energy for your day. We will have snacks & refreshments available as well as the whichever catered lunch option you chose. Prefer to bring your own? Feel free!
  • Please let me know, before we start our session, if you need to leave by a specific time.
  • The balance of your session fee can be paid by email transfer, cash or by credit card.
  • Most important: Take a deep breath, RELAX, and get ready to feel beautiful!

WHAT TO WEAR:

Choose outfits that you love and make you feel FABULOUS! You don’t need to spend a fortune on expensive lingerie. The most important thing to invest in is a well fitting bra. The rest is icing!

Even a bathing suit can work for boudoir!

Wardrobe Suggestions:

  • Have you ever been properly fitted for a bra? Don't have a good fitting bra? In my experience the chain lingerie stores don't provide proper guidance when it comes to sizing. Check out the smaller lingerie boutiques or department stores like Nordstrom's. Their ladies KNOW how to fit you properly and give great advice on styles that will look best. A good fitting bra is the only piece of lingerie that I recommend investing in.
  • Choose lingerie pieces with beautiful fabric details like lace and mesh, or even straps -- go with pieces that hug and accentuate those curves and show them off! Don't worry, you do not need everything on this list. Choose what appeals to you the most!
  • Bra & Panty sets: you can't go wrong with classic black but if you love colour go for deep, saturated colours (like jewel tones: deep red, burgundy, navy blue, teal, purple or dark green), just avoid bright (tomato) red, and neon colours (bright yellow, orange or pink). Bra & panty don't have to be perfect match -- same colour will do. White can be worn too but doesn't always look great on all skin tones -- but if you have a white outfit you love, bring it on!
  • Small boobies? NO PROBLEM! Go for sexy bralettes with delicate lace details.
  • Bridal Boudoir: I really recommend white lingerie for a Bridal Boudoir session, whether it's bra & panty set, teddy/bodysuit, etc. If you want to bring your veil, please do! Otherwise we'll fake it with some tulle fabric.
  • Pretty Panty: bring one pair that have some pretty details (lace, straps, sheer, etc) in the back for a fabulous booty shot! Cheekies and Brazalian panties tend to work best since they create a beautiful shape to your bootie, but if you want to throw in a thong or G-string then go fot it! High cut panties also give your legs a longer look over hiphugger panties.
  • Bodysuits & Teddies: What's the difference? Bodysuits can be worn with jeans/pants while teddies are more sheer and meant for the bedroom -- but BOTH work for a boudoir session! They will show off your curves beautifully. And don't worry, there are many styles where you can wear a bra underneath if you need to!
  • THE CLIENT CLOSET: We have a selection of bodysuits available in sizes XS to 4X. We keep our Client Closet clean and sanitary by requiring all of our clients to provide and wear their own thongs underneath all of our items, in addition to laundering or dry cleaning each item between every single use. Nude thongs are best to wear under any colour of bodysuit, while black thongs are more suited to black bodysuits only. Choose a simple style of thong that sits on the hips, not high waist.
  • Garters: whether it is an outfit with built-in garters or just garters, they are a wonderful accent piece to wear. NOTE: it is important to wear traditional stockings and not the ones with the silicone backing (those are "stay ups" and not meant for garters to clip onto).
  • a leather jacket (with no bra underneath!)
  • a pair of Calvins
  • sexy bathing suit
  • your man's dress shirt (preferably white)
  • white t-shirt or tank top for the shower set (thin material is best)
It’s not just about what you are wearing, but how it makes you FEEL!

PREFERRED PANTY STYLE?

Many assume that boudoir sessions are all about G-strings & thongs, but that's only the case if those are styles you LIKE to wear. If not, the style that I highly recommend are CHEEKY styles. Cheeky styles cover the most of the booty and give it a nice shape. One thing to keep in mind however, the HIGHER the cut of your panty, the BETTER! Lower cut panties that sit on the hip, will shorten your legs -- high cut panties will make your legs look LONGER.

Cheeky Styles: choose at least one panty with a beautiful style on the back, whether it's lacy, strappy, has built-in garters, for those close-up booty shots! Concerned about your tummy? Try a high waisted cheeky style (far right). These styles are from La Vie en Rose: https://www.lavieenrose.com/en/panties/cheeky

Optional: The "ICE BREAKER" outfit

If you are nervous about your session, want a "tame" photo to show the family, need a new headshot for work or even a new dating profile image, then let's start off with an "ice breaker" outfit -- any outfit that you LOVE to wear, feel comfortable in and makes you feel amazing, and THEN we'll work our way gingerly into more intimate apparel. It can be as casual or as dressy as you like!

Your ice breaker outfit can be a fancy gown that you only got to wear once or a torn pair of jeans!

Everyone deserves a beautiful portrait of themselves. The Beauty is in you. Allow me to capture it.

Need to go Shopping? Here's some Recommendations:

For stockings to wear with a garter, Fancy Sox is a GREAT source!

I've had clients have success finding lingerie (like bodysuits/teddies) on Amazon too!

What NOT to Wear

  • AVOID babydolls, chemises/slips/negligees, cami/shorts sets & rompers: the flowy fabric will hide your figure and make your midsection look larger than it actually is (yes, even the sheer kind).
  • AVOID corsets: they will limit posing, squish your breasts and leave terrible marks on your chest/back (bustiers are fine)
  • AVOID "stay up" stockings: even if you don't opt for garters, I still do not recommend "stay ups" since they tend to squeeze the thighs, don't lie flat and tend to roll down.

These items are cute for the bedroom, but will hide your waist in a photoshoot. Our goal is to SHOW OFF your curves!

What NOT to DO!

Fake tans will make you look orange in camera, plus spray tans & self-tanning creams can create darker and uneven areas on your body (especially hands, feet, knees, elbows).

You do NOT need a golden, bronzed look to your skin. PALE, NATURAL skin tone is IN!
