Barbican Estate

Barbican Estate BIOGRAPHY

Barbican Estate formed in Tokyo in 2019 and consists of Kazuki Toneri (Gt, Sitar), Miri (Ba, Vo), and Koh Hamada (Dr, Percussion). They’ve consistently played shows in the Tokyo underground scene along with releasing an EP and 3 singles in 2020. They released their 1st album Way Down East in winter 2021. Barbican Estate uses drones, psychedelic soundscapes, driving rhythms, and vivid lyricism to create their massive sound. The band's influences include Japanese psychedelic/noise rock, US experimental bands, classic film, as well as literary and architectural movements.

From 2022, they moved to London, and are actively working mainly on live performances.

They released their second EP The Fall in winter 2022, and their headline shows in London are often sold out.

DISCOGRAPHY

On November 30, 2022, we released our 2nd EP "The Fall"

Barbican Estate's 2nd EP, "The Fall".

Our latest release is a highly experimental work that pays homage to recent psychedelic and lo-fi pop, 70s krautrock and B-movie soundtracks.

Recorded, arranged, mixed and mastered by Nacky Ishikura (OTolab). Various instruments such as flute, mellotron and synthesiser were incorporated.

The sound of this album, which is both fresh and disturbing, is expressed through a cross between nature worship and brutalism

On December 22, 2021, we released our 1st Album "Way Down East"

Our 1st album "Way Down East".

Named after DW Griffith's film "The Road to the East," the title of the album was inspired by the journey from West to East to purify the soul, with the A-side mainly influenced by Western pop culture and the B-side inspired by Eastern mysticism.

The album was mixed and produced by Hideki Urawa (Rollo), who has worked with Kikagakumoyo and Satomimagae, and has evolved into a more psychedelic and majestic soundscape in addition to the organic noise sound of vintage equipment.

On March 2, 2020, we released our 1st EP "Barbican Estate"
