Cultivating Parent Engagement

The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is crucial for students at Sinton High School as it opens pathways for both military and civilian careers by identifying students' strengths in various aptitudes. It is not just for students interested in the military. Here’s why it’s valuable for our SHS students:

  • Career Exploration: The ASVAB includes a Career Exploration Program that helps students align their interests/skills with potential career paths, whether in the military or civilian sectors.
  • Military Opportunities: For students considering military service, this is a required entry exam which helps them understand the roles/careers available within the military. Strong scores could lead to specialized positions and career advancement.
  • Scholarships and Education: High ASVAB scores may qualify students for military scholarships and educational benefits that support further education and skill development.
  • Self-Awareness: The ASVAB provides insights into areas such as math, science, technical skills and verbal abilities. This can boost confidence and guide our students in choosing their Programs of Study (Pathways) or vocational programs at SHS.
  • Employability: Skills highlighted through the ASVAB are valued by employers in various industries. Our students can leverage their scores to showcase capabilities to potential employers around the area, enhancing job readiness in their resumes.

SHS Instructional Program progress from August through October 25, 2024. The graphic above highlights the 9 essential instructional elements that administrators focus on during classroom observations and learning walks. This data-driven approach helps us identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement across our classrooms, ensuring the quality of education your child receives.

The numbers in the NWEA MAP Testing chart below reflect percentages.

Our journey! Reaching for the Campus Rating of an "A"! Our plan is to keep the momentum moving forward in decreasing 'Does Not Meets' percentages and continue gradual increases in 'Approaches', 'Meets', and 'Masters' in MAP Testing so that we can celebrate reaching our EOC STAAR Testing Goals.
SHS is on the rise!

As we continue to strive for academic excellence, we kindly ask for your support in encouraging your child to do their best on the upcoming MAP testing days. Regular school attendance is essential in helping them prepare for not only their content exams but also MAP and EOC tests. Your involvement and encouragement play a key role in your child's success, and together, we can ensure they are well-prepared for the road ahead.

College Ready

At SHS, our commitment is to provide students with the support and resources they need to meet and exceed these expectations. Together, we can ensure our students are not only ready for college but also for success in any path they choose.
These are the College Assessments offered at SHS and they provide CCMR points in accountability.

12th Graders:

By law, students must complete the financial aid application requirement for graduation.

  • Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Complete and submit the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA)

FAFSA Being Completed with help from Del Mar Financial Advisors

The seniors took the first step in preparing to complete the FAFSA and learn how financial aid can help them obtain their post-secondary plans. Several staff members from Delmar, along with the Gear Up advisor, were on campus to assist the seniors in setting up their accounts and ensuring they are prepared for the December 1 release date of the FAFSA. Completion of the FAFSA is a graduation requirement for all Texas high school seniors.
  • Seniors need to be sure that they take full advantage of their last year to set up payment plans in paying off any accumulated fees/dues owed from throughout their Sinton Pirate career before May graduation.
  • Consider registering to take the ACT or SAT (If you didn't do so as a Junior).
  • Begin a college admissions process calendar. On your calendar, keep track of everything regarding college admissions process, from standardized testing dates and college interviews to scholarship deadlines. Frequently review the 2025 Counselor's Google drive to find important information/scholarship announcements at: 12th Grade: Class of 2025 ---- mhccb64

Shout Outs

Arts & Humanities Program of Study

English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) plays a central role in our Arts and Humanities Program of Study, shaping students into effective communicators and critical thinkers. Through a strong ELAR foundation, students gain skills in analysis, creativity, and expression, which are essential in all arts and humanities fields. Our curriculum emphasizes reading, writing, speaking, and listening, preparing students for diverse post-secondary pathways and careers in the arts, humanities, and beyond!

Showcasing ELAR best practices in action! From Think-Pair-Share collaboration to using curriculum with fidelity, engaging bell-ringers and exit tickets, organized materials, strong discipline management, and reading high-quality instructional materials (HQIM). Proud of our team's dedication to elevating student learning every day!

Social Studies is a cornerstone of our Arts and Humanities Program of Study, connecting students with history, culture, government, and the world around them. Through Social Studies, students develop analytical skills, historical insight, and a global perspective--qualities that are vital in all areas of the arts and humanities. This curriculum not only prepares students for success in future studies and careers but also empowers them to become informed, engaged citizens.

Social Studies best practices in action! Our classes are engaging in gallery walks, using popsicle sticks for randomization, rotating through learning stations, reviewing essential questions, and holding Turn-and-Talk discussions. These strategies keep students actively involved, thinking critically, and building a deeper understanding of the world around them!

Our Spanish curriculum is an essential part of the Arts and Humanities Program of Study, providing students with language skills and cultural understanding that broaden their global awareness. Through learning Spanish, students enhance their communication abilities, deepen their appreciation for diverse cultures, and open doors to future careers in international relations, education, and more. Mastering a second language prepares students to thrive in a connected world.

Spanish classes brought creativity to life! Students crafted unique biographical pieces on hand cut-outs, symbolizing their individuality and stories, which were then united in a vibrant collage. Additionally, some students were featured on personalized Hola magazine covers, showcasing their personalities and cultural pride. An altar for Dia de los Muertos or an ofrenda was created and placed under the main staircase in the hallway to honor deceased loved ones; a central part of the annual Mexican holiday of November 1st. Some Spanish 1 students are reading La Llorona as it is printed in Spanish and English. A beautiful expression of identity and unity in our Arts and Humanities program!

Band, Choir, Color Guard, and Theatre Arts are integral to our Arts and Humanities Program of Study, forming the core of our Performing Arts pathway. These programs cultivate students' talents in music, vocal performance, and dramatic arts, fostering creativity, teamwork, and confidence. By engaging in performance, theory, and collaborative projects, students gain skills that inspire lifelong appreciation for the arts and prepare them for future success in a variety of fields. Our Pirates' Performing Arts programs truly bring creativity and expression to our Sinton school community!

Our Band earned a 1st Division at the UIL Region Band Contest hosted in Beeville making it the 39th consecutive 1st Division Award. The Pirate Band advances to Area in Calallen this Saturday, Nov. 2nd. Come out and support them as they perform at 11:45am! Good Luck to our Pirate Band and GO PIRATES!

Cheerleading is also part of the Performing Arts due to its emphasis on performance, choreography, and teamwork, similar to dance and theatre. Cheerleading combines athletic skill with elements of dance, rhythm, and coordinated routines performed for audiences, aligning it with many principles of the Performing Arts. Additionally, cheerleading teaches students about timing, expression, and presence, which are valuable skills in performance-based disciplines.

Theatre Arts has an awesome practice area called the Black Box room! This are simulates the auditorium stage and has also a stage technical room to mock the actual auditorium sound booth for plays and shows.
