Welcome to another issue of Hagwil Yaan!
Welcome back to another Hagwil Yaan issue! If this is your first time here, volume three of this student newsletter has the name: Hagwil Yaan which means "walk softly, walk slowly" in Sm'algyax!
Yawc̓! In each issue, we focus on an Indigenous language in our region. This month, we are happy to feature X̄enaksialak̓ala / X̄aʼislak̓alahe, the beautiful language of the Haisla people!
Here we are mid-term and in the month of November. This is a very busy time for you as a student so please feel free to reach out to us at FNAC@coastmountaincollege.ca if you need support with personal, financial, or academic issues. We have Accessibility Coordinators & Learning Assistance Specialists from our Student Service Team to assist you if you are experiencing problems accessing Brightspace, having accessibility issues, need help with time management, need a tutor, etc. We are all here to assist in any we can! You got this!
Enjoy, take care and stay safe!
Please note that FNAC Jill will have limited hours on campus for the next year. If you are in need of assistance and at the Terrace campus, please email FNAC@coastmountaincollege.ca to connect with another First Nations Access Coordinator. The email is monitored daily so one of the FNACs will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
First People's Days of Significance
National Indigenous Veterans Day - November 8, 2024
We humbly thank and honor all of the First Nations, Metis and Inuit soldiers and veterans for their sacrifice and service during WW1, WW11, the Gulf War, the Korean War, and for peacekeeping missions around the world. We will not forget their acts of valor and courage for our nations. Their sacrifice is deeply appreciated and will always be remembered.
Highlights of Past Events
The Cedar Hat Weaving Workshop with Valerie Morgan was a great success. Participants spent the week learning the art of weaving a cedar hat.
