Colmore Junior School autumn term: week: 8

Highlights of the week

We have finally come to the end of a long, productive, eight-week half term! I hope every child and parent has a restful and restorative half-term break. It is fantastic to see how well all our children, particularly our new Year 3 pupils, have settled into the rhythms and routines of Colmore Junior School. They are truly producing some lively and engaged work.

Earlier in the week, we took a small group of girls to a fantastic 'This Girl Can Event' at Bishop Challoner Secondary School. It was brilliant to see them engaging with different activities and embracing the joy of sport.

Year 4's 4R were the first class to make a visit to Kings Heath Library this week, marking the start of a fantastic reading partnership. The other Year 4 classes will follow this in the next half term.

Have a lovely, well-deserved half-term break!

Mr Gale

4R had a wonderful trip to Kings Heath Library today. They found out about how the library works, how they can access books from the children’s library and they listened to a wonderful story.
5H have been finding out about factors and multiples this week. They used their knowledge to create these lovely factor flowers.
Our Wellbeing Ambassadors had their training this week with Mr Hughes and Mrs Mallard. They have worked hard to understand their role and how to support children with their wellbeing.
Seven Year 5 girls attended a 'This Girl Can' event at Bishop Challoner. They took part in a range of activities including archery, volleyball and skipping and talked about the benefits of regular physical activity. The girls were great representatives for school and threw themselves into all the different activities with real enthusiasm.
Year 6 have been working hard in their gym sessions. They have been using their rhythmic gymnastic skills to create these super routines.
In active minutes this week 5B leapt in to action and joined the conga line!
3O shared this wonderful work today. They have been writing their own descriptive paragraphs. These are wonderful examples which include some great similes. Well done 3O.

3O have written these super acrostic poems all about how we need to look after our world. There is some very good advice.

Year 6 have been carrying out some independent research in to the Flannen Isles mysteries. They have come up with their own theories as to what happened to the lighthouse keepers on the island.
Children in 3C have been superstar readers this half term. Look at all these certificates! The have all reached their reading planets! Well done 3C! 🪐
A child in 5BM put together a wonderful Kahoot quiz all about the Ancient Greeks. He shared it with the class and tested their knowledge.
