MELS Renewal At MELS, we commit to building a safe and caring environment where all students in our diverse community are known well, feel they belong, and know they can thrive.

Continuous Improvement & Distributive Leadership

At MELS a culture of continuous improvement acts in service of student achievement. The Instructional Leadership Team identifies focus areas determined by walk through data, HQW protocols, curriculum reviews, data dives, and student surveys. The ILT outlines a plan for community learning and distributes leadership to enact the learning and change in practice.

High Quality Student Work

MELS Mission

As a staff, we foreground teaching practices that increase the engagement and access of all students. We do this by building on a vision for equity that begins with an anti-racist and anti-biased approach to teaching that values our students' various cultures and identities. Our curriculum as a whole centers work that is academically demanding and personally relevant, dedicated to project-based coursework, classroom collaboration, fieldwork, interaction with experts, and interdisciplinary and real-world products. Through these experiences, students develop their agency and capacity to think critically in the service of furthering equity, justice, and sustainability.

MELS Graduates

MELS Vision

Our graduates are citizen-scholars. They demonstrate a commitment to equity, justice, and sustainability that is grounded in deep understandings and critical investigations of the social, political, and environmental systems around them. They listen with care and curiosity, reflect thoughtfully, apply their learning, and act as stewards to leave the world better than when they found it.
