French Leader - Miss H Jeffery
Our modern foreign languages has been designed to follow the published scheme Jolie Ronde, which is a scheme for KS2 pupils. However, we are also exploring the opportunity of extending MFL into KS1, using the Little Languages scheme.
Our aim is to develop a range of skills including.
• listen attentively to spoken language and show understanding by joining in and responding.
• explore the patterns and sounds of language through songs and rhymes and link the spelling, sound and meaning of words.
• engage in conversations; ask and answer questions; express opinions and respond to those of others; seek clarification and help.
• speak in sentences, using familiar vocabulary, phrases and basic language structures.
• develop accurate pronunciation and intonation so that others understand when they are reading aloud or using familiar words and phrases
present ideas and information orally to a range of audiences.
• read carefully and show understanding of words, phrases and simple writing.
• appreciate stories, songs, poems and rhymes in the language .
• broaden their vocabulary and develop their ability to understand new words that are introduced into familiar written material, including through using a dictionary.
• write phrases from memory, and adapt these to create new sentences, to express ideas clearly.
• describe people, places, things and actions orally and in writing.
In line with the National Curriculum, we want our pupils to be able to learn another language and develop a curiosity about other languages and cultures, whilst deepening their understanding of the wider world.
Teaching should equip pupils to express themselves, through developing their understanding of a spoken language, whilst being able to use their listening skills to understand and respond to a speaker. Pupils will also learn to write in another language, so they can communicate simply in written form.
MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES IMPLEMENTATION
We plan for Modern Foreign Languages, ensuring complete coverage of the National Curriculum objectives by following the agreed schemes, which focus on delivering a comprehensive collection of French based language lessons.
Jolie Ronde (KS2)
Our French tutor, Mr Ratcliffe, comes into school every Wednesday to teach French to all of KS2. We follow the agreed scheme which systematically builds across the key stages, through the delivery of a series of lessons in each year group using games, story-telling, songs and other activities.
