Motion Graphics Animation Retail Commercials

The commercials in this week’s lesson are categorized as Retail ads.

Chewy.com

Chewy.com is an online pet store that offers a wide range of pet products, including food and supplies. The e-commerce platform is designed to be a trusted and convenient destination for individuals who own pets. It is also an online hub designed to streamline pharmacy operations for veterinarians. This live-action/animated hybrid commercial includes a CGI-animated dog that looks like an animated puppet.

Empire Carpets

I included this very brief video ad for Empire Carpets because I can remember seeing it as a child growing up. This is only part of a commercial that usually begins with real actors promoting the product and service that they sell. This portion of the commercial is fully animated and although it is really old, this version of it is CGI-animated. I think they remade the animation when the technology became available. It includes their Empire Man character, too who is also in the company logo.

Energizer Batteries

On YouTube, the title for this commercial says that it is the first Energizer bunny commercial. An online search shows that the Energizer bunny was first introduced in a commercial on October 30, 1988. If this commercial was in fact that first one of its kind, that means they used real toy bunnies to demonstrate the fact that their batteries lasted longer than batteries made by their competitors. This ad features bunnies playing bass and snare drums like they are in a marching band. That makes the animation in this ad puppet animation that was evidently edited and “synced” to move the way the designers wanted it to.

Walmart

This live-action/animated hybrid ad for Walmart includes an animated emoji character who is seen working hard to lower prices at their stores.

This completes the “class” on Motion Graphics Animation. There is no assignment for you to do this week. You are encouraged to review all that you have learned this season in preparation for a test.

There will be an end of season test on the lessons that have been presented on this website. The test will be posted Friday, May 30, 2025. You will need to review the following information to score a good grade on the test:

• The Art in Animation lesson

• Motion Graphics Animation commercials

• The “common elements” of commercials with motion graphics

• Vocabulary for Motion Graphics Animation

The test will have 30 questions. The Answer Key will be posted for the test a week after it is posted. The following Monday, the End-of-School Special Assignment information will be posted. The ESSA will be comparable to the Holiday Special Assignment that you worked on and completed over the Christmas holidays, but it will be different.

Remember to save your notes, drawings and practice videos for future use and development. As an aspiring animator, when you complete these assignments, you are creating a valuable portfolio of your work.

Learning is fun!
