Come to the Party Reception class, spring term, week 5

Reception class is immersed in fairytale adventures, with the current favourite being Cinderella...

After reading multiple versions of the story, we wrote about what we could see in it.
Cinderella and the Prince.
"Look, a shoe!" said the Prince.
We wrote 'wanted' posters'.
Beautiful writing.

Following some drama work, we made invitations that said, 'Come to the party.'

Shared writing.
Writing and decorating the invitations.
An excellent example.

It's been wonderful to see the children's development in writing, reading, and oracy so far this half term...

Letter formation practice.
Further letter formation practice.
Red word hunt.
A quiet moment reading.
Sounding out unfamiliar words.
Remembering which letters make which sounds.
An oracy task with a small group.

Maths this week has involved looking at the composition of numbers, the very beginnings of part-part-whole models, and comparing size and weight.

One of our favourite parts of the week is our trip into the woods. This week, the children focused on their physical development, trying to be ambitious and brave with their movements.

Huge smiles!
Climbing across the high, wobbly rope bridge for the first time.
Pulling their bodies up the climbing wall.
Playing with friends.
Climbing the ropes.
Finishing with a quick snack break.

One other event I’d like to mention is our special visitor on Thursday, who taught us a little more about what 'Christianity' means. Thank you to Amy from Cornerstone for delivering her workshop.

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to help take the children to their forest school sessions. We are now sorted for helpers until 12th March. If you're ever able to come and support us, we go on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 12:00 and would greatly appreciate the help!
