Course Detail

This course will run as an AAQ which is a one A-Level equivalent. If government (DFE) advice on BTECs and V-Levels changes we will update students as soon as possible and try to offer the double and triple courses.

Health and Social Care is a very popular and successful vocational course. The range of units studied allows students to develop their knowledge and understanding of the broad area of Health and Social Care. The course has recently been revised due to national developments and includes topics such as Human Lifespan and Development, Human Biology and Health and Health and Social Care Practise.

Additional Entry Requirements

  • GCSE Maths: 4
  • GCSE English: 5
  • GCSE Science: 44
  • Three additional GCSEs, in any subject, at grade 4 or better.

How will I be assessed?

This course is the equivalent of one A-Level. This course has both internally and externally assessed components; methods of assessment include presentations and written assignments. You will do some externally assessed units. Internally assessed units require students to:

  • Write up the findings of their own research
  • Use case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations
  • Carry out projects for which they have choice over the direction and outcomes
  • Demonstrate practical and technical skills using appropriate workplace values and practices.

The requirements of the course will be met through a variety of assignments which are assessed through presentations and by completing tasks in controlled conditions.

Where can this course take me?

This course can equip you to go to university where you can study a variety of subjects including Social Work, Social Sciences, Sociology, Psychology or onto further training opportunities for example in Child Care and ultimately work within many roles such as a Primary/Secondary Teacher, Social Worker, Care Worker, Nursery Worker and Nursing.
