Welcome to this week's newsletter
As we move towards the final few weeks of the academic year, it has been wonderful to see some much-needed sunshine finally making an appearance. The positive weather has certainly brought an extra energy around the school, with students enjoying breaktimes and lessons in the warmer conditions. With temperatures forecast to remain high throughout next week, I would like to remind parents/carers and students to take sensible precautions. Please ensure students bring a refillable water bottle to school each day and stay well hydrated. We would also encourage the use of sunscreen before arriving at school and remind students to seek shade where possible during social times. To help keep students comfortable in the predicted heat, all students should wear their Manor PE kit next week (Monday to Friday). This means their school polo shirt and PE shorts. We will continue to monitor the weather closely and make any further adjustments if necessary. One of the highlights of this week was our Year 7 Consultation Evening. It was fantastic to welcome so many families into school, with around 70% of our Year 7 cohort attending. These evenings provide an invaluable opportunity for students, parents/carers and teachers to celebrate success, discuss progress and identify the small steps that can make a big difference moving forward. As a Year 7 teacher myself, it was particularly rewarding to share positive experiences and support students in understanding how they can continue to improve and achieve their very best. Monday also marked an important milestone as we said a final farewell to our Year 11 students. As they left through the Manor Tunnel, cheered on by the entire school community, it was a moment filled with pride, celebration and reflection. They have been a fantastic year group who have represented the school brilliantly. While I look forward to welcoming some of them back into our sixth form, I would also like to wish every one of them the very best for the future. They leave with our congratulations, our thanks and our confidence that they will go on to achieve great things.
Over the past week, I have also enjoyed visiting many of our local primary schools to meet the students who will be joining us in September. It has been a pleasure to speak with them about our upcoming transition days, answer their many questions and help ease any worries they may have about starting secondary school. Their enthusiasm and excitement have been wonderful to see, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming them into the Manor family. Finally, as part of Thank A Teacher Week, I would like to thank all of our staff for the hard work they put in in supporting our students. Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Parent forum
We would like to invite you to attend a parent consultation evening on the Manor School rewards and behaviour policy. Date: Thursday 2 July Time: 5:30pm Location: LRC The session will last approximately one hour and will provide an opportunity for us to share proposed developments to the policy, gather your views, and discuss how we can continue to work together to support high standards of behaviour across the school. We will be sharing information about the rewards we use in school, along with some updates to our approaches to behaviour and consequences that will be introduced from September. Attendance at the end of term
As we move towards the end of the academic year, maintaining strong attendance remains just as important as it is at the start. Learning continues right through to the final weeks of term, with lessons carefully planned to consolidate key knowledge, build confidence, and prepare students for the next stage of their education. Parents and carers can help keep motivation high by encouraging regular bedtime routines, talking positively about school, celebrating effort as well as achievement, and reminding students of their goals and progress. We would like to thank parents and carers for your ongoing support in prioritising attendance. Your encouragement makes a real difference in helping students finish the year strongly.
Road safety
Please may we politely remind parents/carers to be mindful of their speed when driving along the roads surrounding our school, and to be extra vigilant of pedestrians who may be crossing. If at all possible, please drop off or collect your child(ren) from a location a little further away from the school's entrances, in order to help reduce the amount of traffic flowing through a small area. Thank you for your support in keeping our students and community safe.
Sixth form induction
Our sixth form induction programme will take place on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 June. The two-day induction will provide a fantastic opportunity for students to immerse themselves in their new subjects and experience the sixth form culture. A letter has been sent via Arbor to parents/carers of current Year 11 students outlining details of the two days. Students are to confirm their attendance by completing this form.
Sport opportunities
Archery taster session The Archers of Raunds visited the school after school on Tuesday to host the first of their summer taster sessions, with four students taking up the opportunity to give it a try. Dan, the lead coach, made it a point to inform Miss Hustwait what a joy these students were to have in the session, so a huge well done to William A, Isabelle A, Olly-James B and Ava R. Later in the session, Dexter W and Milo F also let curiosity get the better of them and came out after their gym session. As we get closer to National School Sports Week where the aim is to ensure students understand the value of sport and exercise, it is great to see students trying something different to be active and make positive choices. The next and final session will take place on Tuesday 23 June after school, so if anyone else would like to give archery a go they would be extremely welcome. Netball trials Trials are taking place in September for talented athletes to represent Northants and begin their journey on the England Netball Pathway. See the poster below for details.
