Don't Let the Winter Blues Get You Down!!
The “Winter Blues” effect both individuals and those around them. Learn more about this seasonal affliction and how to manage it. Many people start to feel down when the days get shorter and these mood changes can become serious affecting how you feel, think, and handle daily activities. Join us for this workshop at the Granville County Senior Center in Oxford on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 10:45 a.m.
Join us on Thursday, January 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Berea Branch Library for our Healthy Living for Your Brain & Body workshop. We will provide information on the research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and use hands-on tools to help you incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging.
Join us for a workshop on Wednesday, January 15 at 12:00 p.m. at the Person County Auditorium, where we will tackle how to prepare healthy soups for our “Soup-er Bowl” Lunch N’ Learn. You will learn about the nutrition, food safety, and culinary aspects of creating a variety of delicious soups. It is $5 to attend and the money is due by January 13.
New "Extension At Home" 2025 Series
In January, we are going to provide information on how to “Spice Up Your Life” on Tuesday, January 21 at 10:00 a.m. We will discuss different herbs and spices, health benefits, food pairings, and explore new recipes. We are well aware that cooking with herbs and spices will help reduce the salt intake of our participants, helping with various chronic conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, etc.

"Exercise Within Reach" Workshop
The Person County Cooperative Extension Service and the Person County Health Department will be hosting the Living Healthy with Diabetes program. It is a FREE 6 week program developed by the Self Management Resource Center that will help you manage symptoms including fatigue and depression, improve your communication skills, use relaxation techniques, eat healthy, use medication effectively, monitor your blood sugar, and set goals. This program will be held on Tuesdays, February 4 – March 12, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m at Person County Office Building at 304 South Morgan Street in Roxboro.
The Person County Cooperative Extension will be offering an in-person “NC Safe Plates” for all those who work in the food service industry. “NC Safe Plates” will be offered at the Person County Office Building on Wednesdays & Thursdays, February 12, February 13, February 19, and February 20 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. each day with the exam on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Participants who pass the exam will receive a certificate required for inspections. The registration fee is $150 and is due by Wednesday, January 29 along with the registration form.
