Message from our Principal

Remembering Willow Gollan-Essex

As week 3 term 4 comes around, we turn our hearts and thoughts again to the family of Willow Gollan-Essex. Willow’s family is inviting us all to honour her at her memorial service on Tuesday 28 October at the Mullumbimby Football Club. If parents and carers can please notify the school in advance if your young person will be attending the service with your supervision, this will assist us to plan appropriately to support our young people at school. To honour Willow at the service, please wear something blue, her favourite color.

HSC examinations continue this week

The HSC continues this week with many of our Year 12s starting to complete their final exam, while for others it will be another week. Also being assessed this week is Year 8 in Science through the VALID test.

The impact of screen time

Would you like to provide some feedback on screentime and it’s impact for our young people? Macquarie University is undertaking research on how screentime impacts education. Parents, carers and students can help this very valuable research by completing the survey which can be found here.

Rewarding positive behaviours

Over term 4, we will be focusing on and rewarding positive behaviours from our students in all year groups. This week’s focus is on Uniform. When we wear our uniform, we show pride and belonging to our school. Within our uniform options, there is plenty of space for student individuality but one of the great things about uniform is that it keeps us all at the same level, no matter our postcode or parents pay package. The Behaviour Code for Students in NSW, under the subheading of ‘respect’ states, [students] “Dress appropriately by wearing the agreed school uniform or dress code.” MHS is a uniform school. The P&C run the uniform shop with prices to ensure that every student is able to access the uniform. Any families that are struggling to get their student in uniform, please reach out to your young person’s year advisor and we can assist you. Our Year 10 students are embracing their transition to senior students with many purchasing the white dress shirts and polo shirts.

New furniture in the science rooms

Last week, our Science classrooms got a bit of a spruce up with new furniture creating a more welcoming and comfortable space for students to learn.
