Volleyball Takes Out Bowdoin, Fifth Time in Four Years
With sights set on the Polar Bears as Colby's lone match of the week, the Mules looked to give a packed Margaret M. Crook Center a thrilling evening.
Colby and Bowdoin traded blows for the first three sets, and the Mules were inches away from taking the match in four when Bowdoin forced extra points and evened the score at two sets apiece. Tied 8-8 in the final frame, Colby was able to take a late advantage (13-12) before Emma Davis (kill) and Alli McKenney (ace) sealed the victory.
Brady Moseley had a season-high 18 kills and 16 digs, and defensive specialist Reese Lloyd was all over the floor with 22 digs. The Mules collected 16 aces across the five sets led by Lloyd with five and Jordan Lee with four.
Colby is now 11-1 on the season and will play host to Hamilton (Friday) and Amherst (Saturday) this weekend.
Mules Collect Two Draws Against Top Opponents
The Colby Women’s Soccer team earned a pair of 1–1 draws this weekend, demonstrating competitiveness against #4 Williams and #13 Amherst.
On Saturday at Williams, the Mules responded after an early goal by the Ephs, as Amanda Schneider converted a Neve Taylor assist in the 38th minute to even the score. Colby outshot Williams 20–17 and matched them save-for-save, holding the nationally ranked opponent to a draw on the road.
The momentum carried into Sunday’s NESCAC Championship rematch at #13 Amherst, where the Mules again battled to a 1–1 result. After falling behind in the 56th minute, Jane Maguire found the equalizer off an Ami Vithiananthan assist 11 minutes later. Colby finished with a 14–10 advantage in shots showing poise and consistency against another top-tier opponent. Sadie Gardner and MK Marshall combined for eight saves in the two contests.
The 4-1-3 Mules (2-1-2 in conference play) will host the Continentals on Saturday for their lone match of the week.
Early Lead Slips Away As Middlebury Tops Football
Entering Saturday's tilt against Middlebury, the Colby Football team was eager to get back in the win column after splitting the opening weeks of the season.
Colby got on the board first converting its second possession into a seven-play, 75 yard touchdown drive. Eli Soehren's (headline photo) 45-yard catch and run put the Mules on the doorstep, setting up the run game to take it the rest of the way. The drive was set up by a blocked punt by Jack Mullen. Colby added a field goal before halftime to take a 10-0 lead into the break.
Middlebury scored twice to open the second half, but Miles Drake put Colby back in front 17-14 early in the fourth with a two-yard run. The Panthers broke a 66-yard scoring run with seven minutes to go and stepped in front of a pass for a pick-six on Colby's final drive to seal the game 27-17.
Ryan Singhal led the ground game for Colby with a career-high 75 yards and Jack Nye hauled in eight receptions for 85 yards. Nye ranks fifth in the NESCAC with 212 receiving yards, and is sixth with 17 catches.
Colby will head to Lewiston Saturday for a showdown under the lights with Bates. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
Wijesekera Reaches B Draw Semifinals at ITA Regionals
Colby headed back to Middlebury this weekend for the three day ITA Regional Tournament featuring the top players and teams of the region.
The first day kicked off with doubles, with four Colby pairs. Isabella Suk and Kat Lowy battled hard against a Tufts duo, saving multiple match points, including one off an ace from Lowy at 6-7 40-40 to make it 7-7, eventually falling in the tiebreaker. Ella Novion and Amelie Gal won their first match against a Babson duo 8-4 before losing to the Jumbos in the following round.
Singles began later in the day, with three Mules in the A draw and five in the B draw. In the A draw, Waka Aida had a huge win against Amherst, closing the match at 6-4, 6-3 before falling to a Wesleyan opponent in the next round. In the B draw, Soumya Wijesekera opened with a victory against Bowdoin to advance to the round of 32 where she then defeated a fellow Mule to move on to day two.
Wijesekera kept the momentum rolling with a 6-4, 6-3 win against the Mammoths and a dominant 6-4, 6-1 victory over Williams to secure her spot in the semifinals. On the final day Wijesekera fought hard but came up short to the eventual champion from Middlebury.
The Mules will conclude their fall season at Smith College in the NEWITT tournament this coming weekend.
Men's Soccer Picks Up Fourth Straight Non-Conference Victory
The Mules earned a 2–0 win at Endicott to start the week before putting together competitive performances against two nationally ranked NESCAC foes.
At Endicott, the Mules struck early when Jude Gussen scored in the fifth minute off a pass from Jasper Paez. Colby controlled the pace from there, holding the Gulls without a shot on goal while generating 13 attempts of their own. In the second half, Anthony Bugliari added an insurance score in the 76th minute to secure the win.
The Mules carried that strong play into the weekend, where they showed they could match up with the best in Division III. Colby outshot #4 Williams 17–15 and forced five saves in a 2–0 setback, then followed with another close battle at #13 Amherst. The Mules had the advantage in both shots (13–12) and corners (9–5), but an early Amherst goal proved decisive in a 1–0 result.
Colby (4-3-2) will return home for the first time in three weeks hosting Hamilton Saturday.
Men's Tennis Begins Fall Season at MIT Invitational
To kickoff the 2025 campaign, the Mules faced off against some top competition in Cambridge, Mass. this weekend.
Jason Daly (headline photo) had a great performance over the course of the three day event playing at #1 singles and #1 doubles. In singles, he defeated Santa Cruz and Wesleyan foes while in doubles, paired up with Marco Ziets-Segura, took care of opponents from Santa Cruz, Amherst, and Wesleyan.
First year Rhys Spano grabbed his first collegiate victories against Santa Cruz and Wesleyan opponents in singles and earned a doubles win against Wesleyan.
On the last day of competition, Matthew Jeong and Sean Wang (first collegiate win) had impressive singles victories against Tufts.
"It was a really good opening weekend for our team at the MIT Invite. All nine players on the team got a lot of matches in both singles and doubles in over the weekend and the experience everyone gained is invaluable. We held our own and experienced success against some of the best teams not only in our region but in the entire country. It was a fun and exciting opening weekend of competition and we’re looking forward to competing again against the regions best in this weekends ITA Regionals.” - Head Coach Adam Reeb
The Mules will head back to the Bay State for the ITA Regionals starting on October 3rd hosted by the Jumbos.
Field Hockey Battles Two Top-10 Opponents
The Colby Field Hockey team faced a challenging road weekend against two nationally ranked NESCAC opponents, showing resilience and effort throughout.
On Saturday at #5 Williams, the Mules fell 4–0 but generated five shots, including three on goal, while Ginna Jacoby recorded six saves in net to keep the game competitive. The next day at #9 Amherst, Colby again battled hard in a 2–0 setback, earning seven penalty corners and making 15 saves. Goalkeeper Opal O’Rourke had 13 of those saves, setting a new season high while Lily Conway tallied two defense saves.
Colby (2-6) will welcome Hamilton Saturday for their first home game since September 13th.
Mules 3rd at Mariners Invitational
With a rare midweek tee time this past Tuesday, the Colby Golf team landed two in the top-10 at the Mariners Invitational to secure third place in the eight-team event.

The Mules also took to the links in Brunswick this weekend for the Bowdoin Invitational. Lamy and Carlson were the leaders for Colby, finishing 24th and 44th respectively in the 97-person field.
Colby will have one final match this fall before putting the clubs away for the winter. They head to Portland for the USM Husky Classic Sunday.
