Welcome Dustdevils!

Monday, Oct. 28, 2024

Dear University Community,

  • This morning’s short-lived fog offered a suitably “spooky” backdrop for a fun week ahead highlighted by Halloween Fest and Wicked Wellness Week. Halloween Fest is underway from 6 – 9 p.m. and open to the public on the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center Green.
  • Among Wicked Wellness Week activities are a Blood Drive, Health Fair, and Spooktacular Info Fair. More here.
  • Our Dia De Los Muertos Concert, featuring the TAMIU Ballet Folklorico and our Mariachi Internacional, is this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the CFPA Theater. Ticket information here.
  • We'll celebrate the Men's Soccer final home game of the season during Mob Fest, happening this Saturday, Nov. 2 at the PEG Energy Arena. Doors open at 2 p.m. and the game begins at 3:30 p.m.
  • And the numbers are in ... Over 700 volunteers combined efforts to generate 28,560 community service hours with an approximate monetary impact of $909,208 for our Make a Difference Day 2024 held Oct. 19. Well done! Here’s a video and details.
  • Kudos to all involved in presenting last week’s Maroon Madness, which was a great way to get our shared athletic spirit revved-up.
  • Our Cybersecurity Awareness Month continues...how safe is your password? Have you updated your software?
  • Take a moment to visit the CFPA Gallery and the impressive student artwork assembled for the Parameters Student Show.

Coming Up:

  • Our Environmental Studies Initiative will host its first-ever Symposium, “Eyes on the Water: A Confluence of Perspectives on Water” as Life and Resource,” Friday, Nov. 8, from 1 - 6 p.m. at the TAMIU Student Center. It’s a timely exploration. Learn more.
  • Don’t forget Registration for Wintermester and Spring 2025 opens next Monday, Nov. 4 at 8 a.m.

I’ll leave you with this quote from Humbert Wolfe.

“The wind is rising, and the air is wild with leaves. We have had our summer evenings; now for October eves!"

Have a great week!

- Juan J. Castillo, Acting President
