Weekly Newsletter 22nd November 2024

Welcome to QRA Weekly!

It feels like winter has well and truly arrived this week!

I must start off by thanking our wonderful caretaker Jane for ensuring the school grounds have been as safe as possible in what have been some treacherous conditions this week. Safeguarding in every way possible is the number one priority, and this includes physical safety of course. Can I please ask for your support in ensuring this safety at the start and end of the day by encouraging children not to throw snow or ice on to walkways in and around school. As brilliant as snow is, when it ends up on the paths up to school and on the school grounds, it does create a hazard.

Keeping with the theme of the weather - thank you for ensuring that children have worn appropriate clothing this week. It's been a particularly cold one! Please keep checking weather forecasts to ensure that children can stay as warm and dry as possible at playtimes.

Yesterday we had a Phonics audit courtesy of Jerry Clay English Hub, which I'm pleased to report showed that we're making real progress in this important area. I'm hoping that you'll be starting to see the results at home too! Please remember to read with your little ones as often as you can, as this is a vital part of pupil progress in all areas.

I'm sure Year 6 will be having a great time at their Crucial Crew trip today. Crucial Crew is a practical, hands-on safety education programme which provides children with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe in everyday life. Through interactive workshops and real-life scenarios, pupils learn about topics such as road safety, internet safety, anti-social behaviour, first aid, fire safety and making responsible choices. It's a great day and I'm glad we can offer the opportunity to our pupils.

Thank you for your support this week, as always!

You may have seen in the news that there is much discussion around possible legislation to ban social media for those Under 16.

As a reminder, the current guidelines on this are as follows:

Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter): Users must be at least 13 years old.

WhatsApp: Users must be at least 16 years old.

YouTube: While there's no age restriction for watching videos, users need to be 13 or older to have their own YouTube account, enabling them to subscribe to channels, like videos, post comments, share content, and flag inappropriate material.

It's important to note that these age limits are based on data protection regulations rather than content suitability. Therefore, even if a platform permits users aged 13 and above, the content may not always be appropriate for younger audiences. Parental guidance and supervision are crucial to ensure a safe online experience for children.

Parental guidance can be found at: https://saferinternet.org.uk/guide-and-resource/parents-and-carers

Please do all you can to ensure that children are only accessing age appropriate material online at home.
