Dear parents/carers,
This week we have focused on Children’s Mental Health Week. This year we have been exploring the theme – Know yourself, Grow Yourself with the characters from Inside Out 2.
This is an annual event with Place2Be and in partnership with Here4You , supported by the Walt Disney company. They are raising the importance of self-awareness and expressing emotions. Within our curriculum we support children in developing their emotional literacy and how to manage their feelings. This includes using our colours as reference to how we feel.
It is important that we recognise our emotions and actions in ourselves and others. This helps in building resilience, growth and development.
We enjoyed exploring the theme through the characters of Inside Out. The children were very good at identifying the characters.
One of our children made her own emotions wheel
We use mood boards to help us at school. Children consider their emotions and share how they are feeling
Why not look at some of the resources and tools from the Place2Be website. Resources and activities for Children's Mental Health Week Resources and activities for Children's Mental Health Week
As always, enjoy your family time together.

in the spotlight
Please be reminded:
- Do not park on or across the drives of our neighbours
- Do not park on double yellow lines or zig zags outside school
- The side car park should not be used at the start and end of the day, including when dropping off and collecting from breakfast or after school club
- Be respectful to our neighbours and each other when parking and driving during pick up and drop off times
Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
Attendance
We will be sending out letters to any family where their child’s attendance is below 95%. This is in line with our attendance policy and we aim to raise the profile of attendance by sharing data and awareness with families.
Any absence impacts on percentage attendance whether the reason is authorised or not.
- (Where possible) minimise the number of non-emergency appointments taken in the academy day
A copy of evidence for any appointments is required for records
- Where a child misses morning registration due to an appointment the academy will record this as ‘Medical’ or ‘Late after registers close’ – these are both absent marks and attendance will be affected.
If your child is going to be absent from school, then parents/carers must contact the academy by telephone before 09:30 on the day of absence. Email is not accepted.
Punctuality at the start and end of day is also important. The academy routines and timetabling is carefully set with a sharp start to the day. Gate windows allow adequate time for children to arrive and leave punctually. Our meet and greet processes are valued and we recognise that late arrival can be unsettling.
We will respond to patterns of lateness both in the morning and afternoon targeting repeated poor punctuality with meetings with the Senior Leadership Team.
Eco Committee
Last month, our Eco Committee were really excited to meet another Eco Committee from Oxford virtually. They linked up with the Europa School in Culham to share what we had been doing to help the environment and compare our schools. At the Europa school, the children have half their lessons in another language – French, Spanish or German, which our children find really intriguing! The school are at the start of their Eco-schools Application process so it was lovely to share our experiences as veterans of the programme! We plan to meet again in the Summer term.

Phonics in the spotlight
This week, the children in Miss Pearce’s phonics group were excited to have a practical lesson linked to the book they are reading ‘How to make a peach treat.’ They had lots of fun preparing delicious peach treats and had even more fun eating them! It was a big thumbs up from them!
Tea & Talk
Please join Mrs Grant and Mrs Powell on Monday 10th February for a Tea & Talk about keeping our children safe whilst using the internet.
Come to the brook gate after morning drop off where you will be met.
Trustlinks
This Sunday, Mrs Powell is hosting a tree planting and community picnic with Trustlinks. All families are welcome to attend. Tree planting will take place 10am – 12pm, followed by a community picnic. Please arrive at the school via the gate on Darlinghurst Grove.
Bluebird Care / Macmillan
Thank you to all our families that donated empty chocolate boxes. They were collected by Bluebird Care this week and with our contribution it has helped them collect over 600 boxes!! All of which goes towards fundraising for Macmillan.
