Welcome to our April newsletter. Please take time to read through and take note of some important dates for your diary.
School Successes
At this time of the year we are involved in our annual self evaluation process. As Mr Brown and I work through this we thought we would share some of the success from this which we will be adding to our Standards and Quality report in June .
- We continue to have a much higher attendance than the Renfrewshire Average for all our children.
- We have had no exclusions in the past 10 years
- P4-7 children complete a GMWP (Glasgow Motivating and Wellbeing Survey) every term – we consistently sit at 95-100% for this which indicates children are happy at school, they feel supported, safe and included. P1-3 do a version of this and we have the same high results with these stages.
- Every parental questionnaire over the last 10 years yields a return of around 80%. Every questionnaire is consistently positive with scores of between 96-100%, including questions such as the school is well led, my child feels safe, is supported and I would recommend this school to others.
- The school roll is rising with the number of placing requests out reducing and the number of placing requests in increasing . This year we had 17 placing requests into Lochfield which is more than double.
- The behaviour of our children is something we are very proud of. On every trip this year members of the public have commented extremely positively on the behaviour of our children. They are an absolute credit to you .
School trips provide invaluable learning experiences beyond the classroom, bringing subjects to life and fostering curiosity. They help children develop confidence, independence, and social skills while deepening their understanding of the world around them. Whether exploring history, nature, or science, these hands-on experiences create lasting memories and inspire a love for learning. Many of the classes have enjoyed a school trip this term. Thank you to all the parent helpers who come along and support on these trips. We really appreciate your time. Take a look at what the classes got up to.
Primary 2, 3/2 and 3 trip to Vikingar
Primary 2, Primary 3/2 and Primary 3 visited Vikingar as a celebration of all their learning of the topic this term. The children got to experience what it was like during the times of the Vikings, comparing it to how they live today. They had a fantastic time. Take a look below at some of the photos from the trip.
Primary 4, 5/4 and 5 trip to Kelvingrove
Primary 4, Primary 5/4 and Primary 5 rounded off their topic on the Ancient Egyptians with a trip to the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery. The children were given a guided tour of the Egyptian artefacts and were able to showcase their knowledge and understanding of this interesting time in history. Take a look below at some photos from the day.
Primary 6 trip to RHET Food and Farming Event
Primary 6 had the opportunity to attend RHET's (Royal Highland Educational Trust's) Food and Farming Event at Gryffe Wrae Farm this term. The trip was a hands on experience for the children to explore elements of local farming and food production. The children learned about beef production, dairy, arable farming and crops, as well as rural crime and farming machinery.
Primary 7s trip to the Burns Cottage and Museum
Back in January our Primary 7s hosted our annual Scottish Celebration, commemorating the life of Robert Burns. They recently had the opportunity to visit the Burns Cottage and Museum to experience what it was like to live during the time of Robert Burns. The children impressed the museum staff with their knowledge of Burns and his poems.
World Book Day
On Thursday 6th March we celebrated World Book Day. This year we encouraged the children and staff to dress up as a book character, and as you can see from the photos many went all out. The day was a celebration of books and our love of reading. The children took part in a book scavenger hunt, a book swap and spent time enjoying their favourite stories and hopefully becoming familiar with new stories and authors. Our library is well stocked with a range of books for all ages and we always provide opportunities for the children to access the library and make use of the space.
British Science Week 2025
In March we marked British Science Week, giving the children opportunities to explore many STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) topics. We had parents delivering workshops related to their jobs and companies such as Rolls Royce and BAM's STEM Ambassadors in to work with the children. Throughout the week all classes took part in science experiments and technology and engineering based challenges. These involved the children working together and problem solving to find solutions to many of the problems they faced. Thank you to Mrs Chambers and Miss Smith for organising a fantastic week and t all our helpers who supported. Take a look at some photos from the week.
Easter Celebrations
Many of the children got involved in the Easter Bonnet competition. The efforts that they went to were impressive and we look forward to showing these off during the Easter Bonnet Parade on Friday.

Ren 10 Family Support in Renfrewshire
REN10 is a network of people who work or volunteer in the Renfrewshire area. We have a variety of early help services for your mental health and wellbeing.
We’re here to help!
If you feel any of these services would be beneficial to you or your family’s wellbeing and would like to discuss then please click the link below.
Free School Meals and Clothing Grants
If you feel you may qualify for free school meals, please apply EVEN if your child automatically gets a free school lunch (P1-5). This is because you may also then be entitled to other grants to help with finances. All information is available on the Renfrewshire Council Website. Please use the link below for information.
As a continuing reminder, please avoid parking in Quarry Road during drop off and pick up times. We have seen a huge change for the better when people don’t park there. It is much safer for our children and you just can’t argue with ensuring children’s safety.
