Alumnus Showcases Talent with "Border Bones"

Dr. Juan Saldivar, Jr. '17, Adjunct Professor of Trombone at Texas A&M-Kingsville, is part of the group Border Bones. The ensemble made its debut at the 2023 International Trombone Festival, where they premiered ten new works by Mexican and Mexican American composers.

Recently, Border Bones has commissioned 14 new works and released their first album, Between Borders. They are planning a tour of Mexico in 2025 and preparing to record their second album in collaboration with several South American composers. US Dept. of Ed Grants $3 million to Texas A&M-Kingsville

Providing Undergraduates Resources to Advancement (PURA) Familia is a five-year grant with the university receiving $600,000 each year starting Oct. 1, 2024 and continuing through Sep. 30, 2029.

The PURA Familia grant is based around two main goals: to provide Hispanic and underserved students with social, emotional and academic learning opportunities, and with financial and academic support.

Dinah Bowman '78 Celebrates 45 Years in Portland, Texas

Bowman Design and Framing, founded by Dinah Bowman in 1979, marked the occasion of their 45th year in business on Oct. 24.

Cathy Skurow, Mayor of Portland, presented Bowman with a proclamation detailing her contributions to art and culture in the Coastal Bend. Bowman earned a masters in Biology and Art at Texas A&I in 1978. Congrats Dinah!

Javelina Men’s Basketball Alumni Game

On Oct. 19, former players, coaching staff and dedicated supporters celebrated Homecoming in the SPEC with a basketball game. While Gold was victorious over the Blue team, the real win was the chance to reconnect, reminisce about old times, and meet current student-athletes.

Darrell Green Celebrates Jersey Retirement

On his Instagram, Darrell shared this sweet photo of himself surrounded by his grandchildren. The caption read, "I'm a Champion in the game of life. I just happened to play football."

The Washington Commanders officially retired Hall of Fame cornerback Darrell Green's No. 28 jersey on Oct. 20. Green played for four years at Texas A&I, until his NFL career started in 1983.
