Fairytale Adventures reception class, Term 2, week 2

This week, one phrase we've heard over and over is, "Run, run, as fast as you can, you can't catch me... I'm the Gingerbread Man!" It’s been a fun and exciting week as we've explored the classic fairytale of The Gingerbread Man. Our classroom has been full of adventures as we followed the story, engaging with its characters and events in creative ways.

At the start of the week, the Jolly Postman from last half term's mantle made an appearance and presented us with a problem...

"Help! The Gingerbread Man is sad, and he wants a friend. Can we help? Are these items useful?"
Yes, we can! We can use these items to make the Gingerbread Man a friend.
Stirring, mixing, and baking were all part of the fun!
The children even made their own gingerbread models in the playdough area.
A detailed model of a Gingerbread Man was created.

We had our own little adventure out in the woods on Wednesday morning, and the children got to 'run, run, as fast as they can' like the Gingerbread Man. They were pretty fast!

Back in class, we've been doing a variety of activities, but I want to highlight the math work the children have been learning. We've been focusing on the numbers 6, 7, and 8, using resources like counters and Numicon to explore the composition of these numbers.

Ordering numbers
Matching Numicon to number cards
Using part-part-whole models
Partner work

The weather has been a little warmer, so we've spent lots of time outside developing our physical skills—and, of course, having fun with friends!
