National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

Our school communities came together to recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Staff and students took part in activities and events to listen and learn more about the painful history of residential schools and to talk about actions we can take to support reconciliation in our schools and community. Here's a look at some of the activities and events.

World Teachers' Day

Saturday, October 5, 2024 is World Teachers' Day, a day to honour the amazing educators in our district who go above and beyond for our students every day. Your passion, dedication, and creativity make a lasting impact on our community. Thank you for shaping the future, one lesson at a time! We would also like to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of all the support staff in the district.

Education Committee Meeting

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the Education Committee received the Accessibility Committee Workplan for the 2024-2025 school year. The committee also received an update about this year's school start up.

Foster Family Month

October is Foster Family Month in Canada, a time to honor the incredible families who open their hearts and homes to children in need. These dedicated caregivers provide love, stability, and support, creating nurturing environments where young lives can flourish. As we celebrate their selflessness and commitment, let us recognize the vital role foster families play in building brighter futures for children and youth across the country. Together, we can raise awareness and appreciation for these everyday heroes who make a lasting difference in our communities.

Adopt a School Fundraiser

There's still time to help Cinnabar Valley Elementary reach their fundraising goal for the Adopt a School program. Every year, schools across Canada have the opportunity to apply for the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation’s Adopt a School Fundraiser, in which each Indigo, Chapters, and Coles stores fundraise on behalf of a single elementary school.

This year, Cinnabar Valley Elementary was selected to participate and will be supported by Chapters Nanaimo on Mary Ellen Drive and Coles in Driftwood Mall, Courtney from September 13, 2024 until October 6, 2024.

VIU Fest

Vancouver Island University (VIU) hosts a free community event on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 12 - 4 pm. This free, annual community event showcases the best the university has to offer. There will be live music, a pumpkin patch, a fun zone with kid-friendly activities, a community corner, hands-on science demonstrations, delicious food and beverage options and much more.

Whether you or someone you know is interested in becoming a student or just looking for something fun to do, this event is for you.

Childhood Stress & Anxiety: Empowering Strategies and Effective Supports

The Eric Palmer Memorial Foundation presents a FREE Zoom presentation and discussion on Childhood Stress & Anxiety Building Resilience. The presentation is structured for an adult audience intended for parents, caregivers and educators on Vancouver Island. Registration is required.

XploreSportZ Fall Program

Registration is now open for the XploreSportZ program for children ages 7-12 years old. PacificSport Vancouver Island hosts these events Saturdays beginning October 12, 2024.
