Super Sports!
GAA
St. Brigid’s Senior Gaelic girls are preparing for their final Fingal League match against Realt Na Mara where a win will see our school book a spot in the Fingal League finals. The girls have displayed serious character and teamwork this year which was evident in their most recent win against Garristown N.S on a scoreline of 3-08 to 2-01. A semi final awaits the team but our girls are more determined than ever to go straight to the final with a win on Thursday 23rd of April at Raheny Pitch 11. * Aoife Buckley got a special mention from the referee for having an unreal game against Garristown. Our junior girls will kick start their Fingal League in a blitz style tournament on Wednesday 29th of April facing many different teams. Our Junior girls were victorious last year and are eager to get playing competitive matches again. Let’s wish our junior team the very best of luck in their upcoming blitz.
Soccer
Our soccer girls have started off their league campaign with two wins from two, beating St. Fiachra’s 3-0 and most recently winning 8-1 against St. Canices. Our girls competed very well in the primary 5 aside competition with one of our teams qualifying for the Dublin Finals today in Clontarf. They played very well today but unfortunately were beaten by a small margin. The team will have a knock out cup tie on Monday 27th April against Divine Word N.S.
Camoige
Our camoige team had a match yesterday against St Fintans in Sutton. The girls put in a fantastic effort. They faced a very strong wind in the first half but showed great determination. Despite their efforts, they went in at halftime trailing by 3 goals to 1. In the second half, St Brigid's came out a different team. They brought the game back up to 3 goals to 2. They didn't give up right up until the final whistle! Well done girls!
Library Visits
Lots of our classes ventured off on the Dart to Raheny Library this week. The girls enjoyed reading, doing word searches and other activities including puzzles. Ms O'Donovan's class gave the trip 10 out of 10!
Third class are learning how to knit
Third class are enjoying learning how to knit. They are using spools to create our fabric. This is known as spool knitting or French knitting. They will make jewellery and head bands when we are finished. They will also make a summer collage piece.
School initiatives
Code of Behaviour
Our school will be updating it's Code of Behaviour in the coming weeks. We are currently putting together an audit of our current Code with input from students, parents and staff. If parents would like to make recommendations for improving our policy as part of the audit please email- parents@stbrigidsgns.ie.
Nature Heroes
Biodiversity
We are so lucky to have Ms Flynn who is leading our biodiversity curriculum and has applied for our school to become a Nature Hero! Every class has received their own plant to bring nature indoors, improve the air quality and give the children the opportunity to care for it. Shortly our nature heroes are hoping to install our very first mini pond in the school with dead hedging around it for shelter and protection. We are encouraging children to collect stickes for the dead hedging. Bird boxes will also be installed as part of the project!
Sustainability
We have rented an Energy Saving Kit from Raheny library. Classes will be conducting experiments with the equipment. They can use a device that has a colour beam showing areas where heat is escaping, they can check temperature and humidity in their classroom at different times in the day and can record the amount of energy used to power different devises in the school using a plugin device.
Transition Programme
Lockers
As part of our transition programme we have installed lockers for sixth class students in our newly formed storage space opposite Paula's office. Sixth class students will have the opportunity to practice using their own locker in advance of their transition to secondary school and the girls have come up with super ideas for how the locker system may run in their persuasive writing classes! Check out Mila's incredible ideas:
Friendship Project
In the coming summer months we will be extending invitations to our local primary school 6th classes to join us for activitiy days as an opportunity for sixth class students to practice making new friends.

We are delighted to announce that St. Brigid’s will be participating in staff training in the next academic year as part of our journey towards becoming an ADHD Friendly School.
