School Updates

11th Eco Flag Achievement

We are very proud to announce the award of our 11th Eco Flag. This places Newfield among an elite group, as we are now one of only 1 in 10 schools in Scotland to achieve this outstanding milestone. This achievement is a testament to the dedication, commitment, and passion shown by Mrs Jones and the school’s Eco Committee who have worked tirelessly to embed sustainability and environmental responsibility across the whole school community. Well done everyone!

Attachment Accreditation - Hear Their Voice

We were delighted to receive news that we have achieved further accreditation in our work on the Attachment Pledges. We now have the 'Hear Their Voice' jigsaw piece and this will be displayed in our foyer alongside the others. The panel of assessors commented positively on the use of surveys to gather views, the use of sensory corners and calm spaces throughout the school and supporting comments from pupils and staff. A huge thank you goes to Mrs Johnston and the Health and Wellbeing leadership group for gathering and collating all of the evidence for submission. Well done everyone!

Skills Focus Days

During our recent Skills Focus Days, centred around the “World of Work,” pupils had an exciting opportunity to develop essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and creativity. Across the two days, children engaged in a variety of hands-on activities and workshops led by a range of visitors, helping them to explore different career paths and understand the skills needed in the workplace. We were delighted to welcome Mr Reid to speak about his gardening skills, a representative from Cats Protection, a mental health counsellor, and Mrs Horn (who spoke about the skills she uses when quilting). These inspiring sessions encouraged pupils to ask questions, collaborate with their peers, and think creatively, making the days both educational and highly enjoyable.

World Book Day 2026

Pupils in all classes participated in World Book Day celebrations on Thursday 5th March. There were Live Lessons, a book hunt, book swap shop, work on texts relevant to Anti Racist Education and lots of fun activities sure to encourage a love for reading for pleasure. Every child in the school went home with a free World Book Day 2026 book. A huge thank you goes to the Reading Schools committee who delivered an assembly, ran the swap shop, organised our story box competition and read in a number of classes.

STEM Week

Pupils in all classes enjoyed an exciting and inspiring week of STEM activities this term. We had a number of visitors to classes to speak about careers in the STEM fields, along with live lessons and interactive sessions. In classes, children led their own learning using stimuli in the class 'curiosity cubes'. Many thanks to Mrs McCafferty for organising our annual STEM week!

Learning Showcases

We had a very busy 3rd term for Learning Showcases! Thank you to all parents and carers who have made it along to one of these sessions. The children love to share their learning and the showcases are a great way to end a block of learning on a particular topic. Thank you also to the teaching staff who put a lot of work into preparing these with the pupils.

School Trips

A number of classes went out on their school trips in Term 3. Rooms 1, 2 and 3 have all been to Clyde Valley Farm Park. Room 4 have been to Dundonald Castle and Room 8 have visited Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. We are looking for Parent Helpers to accompany our classes on school trips in the future. If you can help us, please get in touch to arrange your PVG (Disclosure Checks).

Parents' Night

Our Parents' Night took place on Thursday 26th March and was very well attended by parents and carers. Thank you to everyone who came along. We hope that you found the appointments useful and that you were able to get an update on your child's progress across the session so far. The Book Fair was very successful and, as a result of purchases made on the night, the school has been awarded over £430 in credit towards the purchase of new books for school. Thank you to everyone who supported the book fair! The final update on pupil progress this session will be the end of year reports, due out to parents and carers on Tuesday 16th June.

Kids Kitchen Sessions

Chef Robert and Kids Kitchen returned to Newfield Primary just before the break to make sure that the P5 children in Room 9 did not miss out on sessions on food preparation and knife skills. A showcase for parents and carers was held on 31st March and feedback was very positive again. Thank you to Chef Robert for coming back to work with our final P5-7 class.

Young Leaders of Learning Visit - Stonehouse Primary

We were visited by staff and pupils from Stonehouse Primary recently as part of our work with the Young Leaders of Learning. Mrs Smith and her Rights Respecting Schools leadership group put in a lot of work preparing for this visit. Staff and pupils were very impressed with the work we do at Newfield Primary on Rights and they helped choose a Rights Respecting School mascot winner: Elliott Mundt, Primary 5 - well done, Elliott!

Primary 7 Leavers' Hoodies

Our Primary 7 pupils have been gifted their leavers' hoodies in time for our trip to PGL Dalguise this month. These hoodies were paid for in full by our Parent Council, so a huge thank you goes to them for continuing to fund these for our pupils. Thank you also to Mrs Horn, who still put all of the names and branding on the hoodies despite being on secondment to Headquarters as Strategic Head Teacher!

Term 4 Class Newsletters are now available on our school website: www.newfield-pri.s-lanark.sch.uk

Events coming up

It is our outdoor learning day on Friday 1st May. We have a variety of activities planned for our pupils. Pupils should come dressed for being outside - jacket, warm clothing and suitable footwear.

P6/7 Trip to PGL Dalguise

Our P6 and P7 children attending Dalguise will be away from Monday 27th April until Wednesday 29th April. There are 57 children and 6 adults expected to attend. They will participate in a variety of activities; such as orienteering, archery, raft building, zipwire and lots more. We hope that all of our pupils have a great time and make lots of happy memories! Please see our dedicated website for further information. Medication forms should now have been returned to school. Medication should be brought along on the departure date and the form will be attached. Please note that medication must be prescription medication. Staff are unable to administer any personal medication not prescribed to the pupil.

Health Week

We are excited to announce our upcoming Health Week, beginning on Monday 18th May. Throughout the week, pupils will take part in a wide range of engaging activities and welcome special visitors, all designed to support and develop their health and wellbeing. With a focus on keeping active and making positive choices, children will be involved in daily physical activities, so we kindly ask that they come to school wearing suitable fitness clothing each day. Health Week will conclude with our annual Sports Day on Thursday 21st May, with P1-4 taking part from 9:30-10:30am and P5-7 from 1:30-2:30pm. Children are encouraged to wear their House colours to show their team spirit, although this is not essential. We look forward to a fun-filled and active week for all!

P7 Transition Visit to Larkhall Academy

P7 children attending Larkhall Academy have their transition days on 28th and 29th May. Children should come to Newfield Primary as usual in the morning and will be taken down to Larkhall Academy. They will be brought back and will be dismissed at the end of the day from Newfield Primary.

New Primary 1 pupils

We will be welcoming our new Primary 1 pupils and families for their Welcome Assembly and Buddy Meeting on Thursday 28th May. More information will follow to those families who will be starting in August 2026 with us.

Drop Off and Pick Up Arrangements

A polite reminder for all motorists who drop off and pick up outside our school. Please be considerate to our neighbours and not block driveways and house access. Also ensure that speed is kept down for the safety of our pupils and those who live around the school. We encourage our families to 'Park and Stride' which involves parking at the Lifestyles Car Park and walking the rest of the way to school. New rules have been introduced by SLC about parking on pavements and these rules can be enforced by Parking Attendants. I have attached some posters for your information.

Ready Steady Learn Booklets

A reminder to all our parents/carers to sign the Ready Steady Learns when they come home from school. It is really important that we know you have had a look at the comments written by the staff and the pupils. This is our main method of communication between class and home

A reminder that if you are having a clear out you can bring your preloved clothes, shoes, handbags and blankets to the school to put in our yellow recycling bin.
