Mother Margaret Mary Catholic High School

Let Us Pray

Dear Mary, Mother of Jesus and our loving Mother, As flowers bloom and creation is renewed, we dedicate this beautiful month of May to you.Teach us to follow your example, to be gentle and kind, and to listen closely to God’s voice. Draw our hearts closer to your Son, Jesus, so that we may love Him more each day. Watch over our school, our families, and all children throughout the world. Cover us with your tender care and lead us always to Christ. Mary, Mother of God, pray for us. Amen.

May 5

NATIONAL DAY OF AWARENESS FOR MMIWG2S+ (RED DRESS DAY): This day raises awareness of the unacceptable levels of violence experienced by Indigenous women, girls, and Two‑Spirit people in Canada. Communities observe this day to honour those who have been lost, support survivors and families, and reaffirm commitments to the Calls for Justice from the National Inquiry into MMIWG2S+. By wearing a red shirt, students and staff acknowledge past and present realities faced by Indigenous communities and stand in solidarity for healing, justice, and systemic change. The empty red dress, first introduced by Métis artist Jaime Black, symbolizes loss, remembrance, and the urgent need for change.

This was an amazing event, we cannot wait to do this again next year.

Changemaker Day

We are excited to share that Mother Margaret Mary High School will be hosting our annual Changemaker Day on Wednesday, May 21. This special day provides students with an opportunity to give back to the community through meaningful service experiences. Students have been directed to sign up for an off-site service activity using PowerSchool Flex Session. A variety of volunteer sessions are available, including:

  • Mentoring Grade 1 students at AJM and MWI (Bee Project)
  • Salvation Army
  • Capital City Clean Up
  • Devonshire Senior Residence
  • Holesome Place Senior Residence
  • Kids Kottage
  • BGCBigs
  • Edmonton Blood Drive
  • St. Thomas More Church
  • Edmonton Food Bank
  • CityServeYEG
  • Landscaping MMM

Please note that all activities take place off-site and require a completed field trip form. Therefore, it is essential that all students are registered in advance. We are unable to accommodate drop-in participation on May 21. While some sessions have already filled, there are some opportunities available, and students who have not yet signed up are encouraged to do so. We ask that you check in with your student about which activity they selected for May 21 and remind them to complete their registration in PowerSchool Flex Session if they have not already done so. A few additional details:

  • May 21 is a regular half day of school, and attendance will be taken in PowerSchool Flex.
  • Students enrolled in Religion courses can earn service hours for their participation.
  • free BBQ lunch will be provided as a thank-you for students who volunteer in the morning.

We look forward to seeing our students make a positive impact in the community through this meaningful experience.

Scholarship and Award Opportunity

The Premier’s Citizenship Award is one of 3 Alberta Citizenship Awards that recognize students who have contributed to their communities through public service and volunteering. Each high school in Alberta selects one graduating grade 12 student to receive this award. The Government of Alberta presents one award annually to the student nominated by the high school. Each recipient receives a letter of commendation from the Premier. A student must be nominated by their school for the Premier’s Citizenship Award before they can apply for the Alberta Centennial and Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Awards.

The Alberta Centennial Award honours students who have contributed to their communities through notable characteristics in citizenship/social responsibility, leadership and community service. Each year, 25 young Albertans receive a $2,005 scholarship.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Citizenship Award

This award honours students who have contributed to their communities through exceptional citizenship, leadership, public service and voluntary endeavour. Each year, 8 young Albertans receive a medallion and a $7,000 scholarship.

Grade twelve students wishing to apply to these awards must first be selected by MMM. The selection of the student will be completed by school administration after the student has completed the application. Application deadline, 4:00pm, May 20, 2026.

Final Exams

Students are asked to arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to each exam. Writing times are fixed. Students must plan to attend the designated writing period. All students are required to have photo identification for their exams. (MMM student ID fills this requirement along with other photo ID)
