Global is honored to actively participate in holiday stewardship initiatives each year, that reflect our dedication to making a positive impact on the communities where we live and work.
This year, our engagement was widespread, with every region taking part in meaningful initiatives. In California, we partnered with the Sacramento Food Bank to contribute to the fight against hunger. In Alaska, we extended a helping hand by donating food to the Food Bank of Alaska. Meanwhile, in the Pacific Northwest, our participation in the USCG Stuff the Stocking initiative helped to provide essential items to homeless children in Washington state. Additionally, Global partnered with the Maui Strong Fund, aimed to support the people and places affected by the devastating Maui wildfires.
Through these initiatives, we strive to embody the spirit of community stewardship during the holiday season and throughout the year.
USCG STUFF THE STOCKINGS
The Coast Guard family and Community Friends’ Organization provides handmade stockings filled with small basic and educational needs, along with new useful essentials, gifts and toys for homeless children. They serve infants to teens, living in, or reached through, Puget Sound shelters.
FOOD BANK OF ALASKA
"No excuse for hunger"... With this core belief and a commitment to preventing good food from being wasted, a small group in Anchorage organized Food Bank of Alaska in 1979 to serve the entire state.
Food Bank of Alaska works with food industry partners to salvage food that would otherwise go to waste from grocery stores, wholesalers, producers, farmers, and the fishing industry. They also collect food donated by community members and administer government food programs. They have distributed more than 5 million meals in 2022. This was shipped statewide to 150 partner food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, and children’s programs feeding their hungry neighbors.
SACRAMENTO FOOD BANK
Sacramento Food Bank is the largest nonprofit provider of basic human needs in Sacramento County.
They "support the poor and working poor move toward a path of financial independence and self-sufficiency." Their goal is to offer our community the resources they need to shape their best tomorrow.
Today, SFBFS has evolved from a food pantry to a provider of services for lifelong Sacramento residents—as well as immigrants and refugees who have chosen to make Sacramento their home. Each client served comes to them with a unique set of circumstances. Each also comes with a collective hope: to step out of poverty and into a future that allows them to flourish.
