Same Hallways, Different Name Tag

MSU CVM is known not only for training outstanding veterinary students but also for cultivating career paths for its graduates. One example is Jaysa Bloodworth, a recent Veterinary Medical Technology, or VMT, graduate who chose to stay at MSU CVM to continue working with the animals and people who inspired her as a student.

Faculty Spotlight - Dr. Kathryn White

For Dr. Kathryn White, a member of the DVM class of 2025, the transition from school to career has been seamless. White joined CVM’s Animal Emergency & Referral Center, or AERC, as a clinical instructor this summer but has worked there since 2019. She went from volunteer to student to doctor, surrounded by colleagues who have supported her every step of the way.

Dean's Message

Dear Friends,

After 18 years of service, Dr. Bill Epperson has stepped down as Head of the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine. Thank you to Dr. Epperson for his dedication and years of service to the department and college. We are happy that Dr. Epperson is continuing as a faculty member, and he teaches in the Population Medicine rotation and Rural Veterinary Certificate Program. Dr. John Thomason, who many of you may know as Professor of Small Animal Medicine and Service Chief of Oncology, has agreed to serve as interim department head as we complete the search for this position.

Speaking of oncology, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Rance Gamblin has joined the faculty as a board-certified oncologist in a part-time (50%) role. Dr. Rance Gamblin brings decades of experience to our team, and his arrival increases our capacity in medical oncology within the Animal Health Center.

The Global Center for Aquatic Health and Food Security was recognized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations this month. The UN singled out Mississippi State University for its work in addressing world hunger through the development of sustainable aquatic food systems. I’d like to congratulate all members of the GCAHFS team on this accomplishment.

All the best,

Nicholas Frank, Dean

DVM-Ph.D. Students Excel

The MSU CVM DVM-Ph.D. program admitted its first student in 2008 and currently has nine enrolled students. It is uniquely designed for the college’s 2+2 DVM curriculum, which includes two years of clinical rotations. Students are able to start and finish the DVM curriculum with their classmates, and a gradual phase-in of Ph.D. training allows them to complete the Ph.D. in a shorter amount of time following completion of their DVM.

Staff Spotlight: Marsha Lewis

A Mississippi Delta native, Lewis has built a career grounded in science, service, and a love of learning, and she’s never been afraid to follow her interests where they lead.
