Knowing your Materials and Equipment
It is important to understand what is needed for your session and have everything to hand. You will need: Fabric (this must be a fabric specifically created for devore), Screen, Squeegee, Devore Paste, Spoon, Heat press (heated to 180 degrees)
Step 1 Layout your fabric on the printing table right side down, pin/tape into place
Step 2 Spoon the devore paste onto the screen, across the top of the design you want to print.
Step 3 Holding the squeegee at a 45 degree angle, apply firm pressure, pulling towards you to screen print the paste. Repeat more pulls as necessary to coat the fabric.
Step 4 Leave your fabric to dry, wash your screen and equipment.
Step 5 Place your fabric between the Teflon sheets and put under the heat press for 10 second at 180°C, you are aiming for a light golden brown colour, if your sample is too light after 10 seconds continue for a few seconds at a time until you reach the desired colour (without burning your sample).
Step 6 Burning time will depend on the weight of the fabric - the heavier the fabric, the longer time it might need. It is important not to leave the fabric any longer than necessary as it can burn.
Step 7 Once the printed area starts to turn a golden brown colour you can test it by rubbing a small area to see if the fibres are starting to come away.
Step 8 Wearing gloves, wash in warm water with a little detergent and scrub until the burnt areas are removed.
Step 9 Rinse and dry.
