Little 3 Championships

On Saturday, January 13th, the Mammoths competed at the Little 3 Championships. For the first time ever, the Men's and Women's teams earned the overall team championship, determined by combining the point total that each team earned! Together, the team combined to score 305 points! Additionally, the Men won the Little 3 Championships for the third consecutive year, scoring 152 points and the Women won the Little 3 Championships for the first time since 1984, scoring 153 points!

Weight Throw

The day kicked off in the field events. The Men's Weight Throw was the first throwing event of the day and the Mammoths got the team off to a big start, sweeping the first three places! Charlie Spurrell won the event with a huge last throw, throwing a mark of 17.15 meters (56' 3.25") only a few centimeters off his personal best and earned 7 points for the team! David Brown placed second in a huge personal best throw with a throw of 14.92 meters (48' 11.5") and earned 5 points for the team! Hugh Lemmon-Kishi placed third with a personal best throw of 14.03 meters (46' 0.5")! In their first time competing in the Weight Throw, firstyears Alex MacDonald and Jacob Shine competed well, throwing marks of 11.59 meters (38' 0.25") and 11.09 meters (36' 4.75") to place 7th and 8th, respectively.

The Women's Weight Throw was another big event for the Mammoths as Bethany Martin and Emma Ramsingh placed first and second! Bethany Martin won the event with a throw of 11.84 meters (38' 10.25"), earning 7 points for the team! Emma Ramsingh placed second with a throw of 11.45 meters (37' 6.75") earning 5 points for the team! Deb Thayer placed fourth with a throw of 10.34 meters (33' 11.25") and Isabella Niemi placed sixth with a throw of 8.75 meters (28' 8.5") in her Mammoth debut!

High Jump

At the same time as the Weight Throw was being held, the Mammoths were competing in the Women's High Jump. Firstyear Leah Smith won the high jump with a jump of 1.60 meters (5' 3"), clearing the height on her first attempt and earned 7 points for the team! Anaya Thomas placed third, clearing 1.55 meters (5' 1") and earned 4 points for the team! Trintje Nydam placed fourth, clearing 1.40 meters (4' 7").

Cam Heafitz won the Men's High Jump, clearing 1.90 Meters (6' 2.75") to earn 7 points for the team! Alex Robin placed second, clearing 1.75 meters (5' 8.75") to earn 5 points for the team!

Long Jump

In the Men's Long Jump, the Mammoths swept the top-four places in the event! Yeob Kim won with his first jump of the day, jumping 6.75 meters (22' 1.75"), earning 7 points for the team! Michael Abbey needed only one jump in his Mammoth debut to place second with a jump of 6.62 meters (21' 8.75"), earning 5 points for the team! Adrian Friedman placed third with a jump of 6.59 meters (21' 7.5") and Kaleb Barrett placed fourth with a jump of 6.55 meters (21' 6") in his Mammoth debut to complete the Mammoth sweep of the event! Alec Kuzyk, Cam Heafitz, Michael Gerfen and Isaias Wooden placed 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th in the event with jumps of 5.96 meters (19' 6.75"), 5.95 meters (19' 6.25"), 5.94 meters (19' 6") and 5.34 meters (17' 6.25"). Cam Heafitz set a personal best in the even with his jump of 5.95 meters (19' 6.25")!

The Mammoths also swept the top-four places in the Women's Long Jump! Eliza Cardwell won with a stellar jump of 5.62 meters (18' 5.25"), earning 7 points for the team! Eliza was only 5 centimeters off her personal best, demonstrating her strength this early in the season! Eliza also won the Long Jump at the Little 3 Championships for the third consecutive year! Anastasia Ioppolo placed second in a fantastic jump of 5.50 meters (18' 0.5"), a collegiate-best mark, and earned 5 points for the team! Muffie Mazambani placed third with a jump of 5.33 meters (17' 6"), jumping in competition for the first time since 2024 after studying abroad in the Spring 2023 semester. Leah Smith placed fourth with a jump of 5.26 meters (17' 3.25")! Morgan Rome competed in the Long Jump for the first time in college and placed ninth with a jump of 4.52 meters (14' 10")!

Mile

The first event on the track of the day was the Mile. The race got out to a slow start, with nearly the whole field all together through the first 800 meters of the race. The lead pack pulled away from the rest of the field after the first 800 meters and with two laps to go, Julia Schor made a bold move for the lead and never relinquished it, using a fast last lap to cross the finish line in first place in a time of 5:12, earning 7 points for the team! Daphne Witherell placed sixth in a time of 5:27, earning 2 points for the team! Daphne Theiler made a strong return to competition, running a faster second half of the race than her first, placing eighth in a time of 5:32!

In the Men's Mile, Henry Dennen won the battle of the chase pack, placing second with a big finishing kick to place second in a time of 4:22, earning 5 points for the Mammoths! Stan Craig competed well in his first track meet as a Mammoth, placing fifth in a time of 4:26 to earn 2 points for the Mammoths! Sam Young and Harrison Talcott placed 13th and 14th, respectively, and Talcott ran a personal best time in the event! Emmett McGrath and Paolo Canigiula also ran personal best times in the event as they both ran a time of 4:44 to placed 21st and 22nd, respectively!

60 Meter Hurdles

The hurdles were then placed on the track for the 60 Hurdles and the Women's 60 Hurdles were up first. The Mammoths swept the top-three places in the event, as Eliza Cardwell won in a stellar time of 8.81 seconds, earning 7 points for the team! Arissa Grace McGowan placed second in a time of 9.63 seconds, earning 5 points for the team! Myeh Medina placed third in a time of 9.64 seconds, not far off her personal best time in the event! Anaya Thomas, Trintje Nydam and Anastasia Ioppolo added to the Mammoths depth in the event, placing 5th, 6th and 7th in the event with times of 9.75 seconds, 9.83 seconds and 9.91 seconds, respectively, in the event. Bridget Cassata competed in the Hurdles for the first time in 11 months, placing 10th in a time of 10.31 seconds and Morgan Rome competed in the Hurdles for the first time ever, placing 12th in a time of 11.08 seconds!

Michael Gerfen won the 60 Hurdles in a time of 8.85 seconds, earning 7 points for the team and his first collegiate win in a great race! Alex Robin placed third in a personal best time of 10.22 seconds, earning 4 points for the team!

400 Meters

The next event on the track was the 400, which Casie Eifrig won in a fantastic time of 58.69 seconds, earning 7 points for the team! Chanelle Jaeger placed 4th in the event in her Mammoth debut in a time of 1:05.64, earning 3 points for the Mammoths! Caroline Wu placed 5th in a time of 1:05.91 seconds.

In the Men's 400, Tom Ye placed second in a time of 53.87 seconds, earning 5 points for the team! Santi Benbow placed fourth in a time of 54.15 seconds, earning 3 points for the team!

600 Meters

Next on the track was the 600, which Ava Zielinski won in a collegiate best time of 1:41, earning 7 points for the team! Margo Pedersen placed 5th and earned 2 points for the team!

Ian Dopp placed second in the Men's 600 in a time of 1:26, earning 5 points for the team! Josh Thomas placed fourth in a time of 1:29, earning 3 points for the team! Henry Dennen came back after running the mile to place fifth in the event in a time of 1:30!

60 Meter Dash

Héloïse Hughes kicked off her Mammoth career in a big way, winning the 60 Meter Dash in a personal best time of 7.97 seconds, earning 7 points for the team! Rachel Hubley placed fourth in a time of 8.20 seconds in her first race as a Mammoth, earning 3 points for the team! Zoe Mulvihill and Olivia Tennant placed seventh and ninth in their first meet as Mammoths, running times of 8.36 seconds and 8.47 seconds, respectively!

Ben Bell led a big day for the Mammoths in the Men's 60 Meter Dash, placing second in a huge personal time of 7.01 seconds, earning 5 points for the team! Bell dropped more than a tenth of a second off his personal best, a huge improvement in the shortest event! Cody Pierce placed fourth in a personal best time of 7.13 seconds, earning 3 points for the team! Alex Nichols placed fifth in a time of 7.14 seconds, just off his personal best time in the event! Ben Williams placed ninth and ran a huge personal best time of 7.45 seconds!

Pole Vault

In the Women's Pole Vault, Jordan Hecker placed third with a jump of 3.25 meters (10' 8"), earning the team 4 points! Payton Sorensen placed fifth, clearing 3.10 meters (10' 2"), earning the team 2 points! Bridget Cassata had a strong return to competition in her first meet in 11 months, clearing 2.95 meters (9' 8") to place sixth!

In the Men's Pole Vault, Alec Kuzyk kicked off his Mammoth career in an incredible fashion, placing second with a jump of 4.25 meters (13' 11.25"), a personal best by nearly one foot! With his massive jump, Alec earned 5 points for the team! Alex Robin placed fourth with a jump of 3.95 meters (12' 11.5"), placing fourth! Santi Benbow placed seventh and cleared 3.05 meters (10' 0") in his first time competing in the event!

Shot Put

The Shot Put was another big event for the Mammoths, as Jacob Shine and Charlie Spurrell placed second and third, respectively, in the event! Jacob earned 5 points for the team with his throw of 13.07 meters (42' 10.75") that earned him second place! Charlie earned 4 points for the team with his personal best throw of 12.89 meters (42' 3.5")! Hugh Lemmon-Kishi placed fifth with a throw of 11.99 meters (39' 4").

In the Women's Shot Put, the Mammoths swept places two through five! Morgan Rome placed second with a personal best throw of 10.36 meters ( 34' 0"), earning 5 points for the team! Emma Ramsingh placed third with a throw of 10.21 meters (33' 6"), earning 4 points for the team! Bethany Martin and Isabella Niemi placed fourth and fifth with throws of 10.21 meters (33' 6") and 9.72 meters (31' 10.75") and Deb Thayer placed seventh with a throw of 9.11 meters (29' 10.75").

Triple Jump

The Mammoths swept the top-three places in the Triple Jump! Anaya Thomas won with a jump of 10.97 meters (36' 0"), earning 7 points for the team! Muffie Mazambani placed second with a jump of 10.91 meters (35' 9.5"), earning 5 points for the team! Anastasia Ioppolo placed third with a jump of 10.69 meters (35' 1")!

Kaleb Barrett placed second in the Triple Jump in his first collegiate competition, jumping 12.96 meters (42' 6.25") to earn 5 points for the team! Isaias Wooden placed fifth in a jump of 11.61 meters (38' 1.25"), earning 2 points for the team!

800 Meters

The next event on the track was the 800, where Zoë Marcus and Piper Lentz placed second and third! Zoë earned 5 points for the team by placing second and running a time of 2:22 and Piper earned 4 points for the team by placing third and running a time of 2:26!

In the Men's 800, Ben Davis ran solo from the gun and won in a time of 1:57, earning 7 points for the team! Brice Shearburn placed second in his first race as a Mammoth on the track, running a time of 2:02 to earn 5 points for the team!

1,000 Meters

The Women's 1,000 Meters was the next event on the track and the race went out at a slow pace. Bella Lozier placed second in a hard fought race in a time of 3:11 to earn 5 points for the team! Emma Vatnsdal placed fifth in her first race as a Mammoth on the track in a time of 3:18 to earn 2 points!

The Men's 1,000 Meters was a very competitive race and Kolya Markov-Riss and Will Nagy battled throughout the entire race in search of a win. Kolya placed second in a time of 2:33 to earn 5 points for the team and Will placed third in a personal best time of 2:34 to earn 4 points for the team!

200 Meters

In the Women's 200, Rachel Hubley and Halle Hanna placed fifth and sixth in times of 27.53 seconds and 27.88 seconds to earn 3 points and 2 points, respectively for the team! Arissa Grace McGowan placed eighth in a time of 28.92 seconds.

In the Men's 200, the Mammoths swept places two through four! Ben Bell continued his stellar day and placed second in a time of 23.03 seconds, earning 5 points for the team! Jordan Harrison placed third in a time of 23.07 seconds, earning 4 points for the team! Alex Nichols placed fourth in a time of 23.44 seconds! Theo Woodward and Ben Williams placed seventh and ninth in times of 23.95 seconds and 24.66 seconds, respectively.

3,000 Meters

The final individual event of the day was the 3,000 Meters. Claire Callon ran a strong solo effort, placing second in a 10-second personal best time of 10:27, earning 5 points for the team! Allison Lounsbury placed eighth in a time of 10:54, earning 3 points for the team! Thea Crowley placed 11th in a time of 11:13.

In the Men's 3,000 Meters, George Cahill ran a hard fought effort to place third in a time of 8:49, earning 4 points for the team! Theo Dassin placed fifth in a time of 8:57 to earn 2 points for the team! Drew Stephens placed 10th in a time of 9:06.

4x800 Relay

The second to last event of the day was the 4x800 Relay and both the Mammoths Women's and Men's 4x800 Relays won!

Julia Schor led off the Women's 4x800 and gave the Mammoths a huge lead after running a great first leg! Piper Lentz ran a strong leg to maintain the lead, as did Keira Hodum who ran the third leg of the relay! Ava Zielinski anchored for the Mammoths and ran a great final leg of the relay, coming across the finish line in a time 9:48! Together, the relay earned the team 7 points for the win!

Henry Dennen led off the Men's 4x800 Relay in his third race of the day and ran a strong leg to put the Mammoths in second place as he handed off to Will Nagy. Will ran an incredible second leg and got the Mammoths into the lead after a strong first lap, giving the Mammoths a 7-second lead as he handed off to Stan Craig! Stan ran a strong third leg to maintain the Mammoths lead and Ben Davis ran a stellar anchor leg, helping the Mammoths win in a meet record time of 8:00!

4x400 Relay

The Women's 4x400 Relay was next on the track. Mads Rabb led off for the Mammoths and handed off to Paige Clark in second place! Paige held second place, running a strong leg in her first. race as a Mammoth, and passed the baton to Camilla Lash! Camilla ran a strong leg in her first race as a Mammoth as well, handing off to Halle Hanna for the anchor leg. Halle ran hard and helped the Mammoths cross the finish line in second place in a time of 4:10, earning 5 points for the team!

The Men's 4x400 Relay was the final event of the day and Tom Ye ran a strong opening leg, putting the Mammoths right in the mix as they battled for the lead. Ian Dopp ran a strong second leg, keeping the Mammoths in the battle for the victory. Kolya Markov-Riss ran a stellar third leg, opening a nearly two-second lead on the second place team! Cody Pierce ran a fantastic anchor leg, responding to a challenge for the victory and pulled away to help the Mammoths win the event in a time of 3:27, earning 7 points for the team!

With the points tallied, the Mammoths were victorious and won the Little 3 Championships! It was a historic day for the Mammoths as both teams won! Our Men's Senior class leaves undefeated at the Little 3 Championships and our Women's Senior class leaves as the first Senior Class since 1984 as Little 3 Champions!

NEXT UP for the Mammoths is the Winter Classic hosted by Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. The meet will start at 2 PM on Friday, January 19th with the first day of the Heptathlon and Pentathlon. All other track and field events and the second day of the Heptathlon will be contested on Saturday, January 20th, starting at 9 AM.
