Welcome to the the 2024-2025 Broughal Music Blast! Our Majorettes had a blast hanging out with each other and making their pom-poms during the Pom-Pom Party! We can't for you to see the entire marching band in full uniform in a few weeks. October starts next week, so get ready for a busy month! Theatre is hosting an audition prep workshop, while future Freedom HS Patriots are invited to join the Freedom HS Patriot Band at their next football game. Check out the Blast for more details. Mean Girls, Jr. Audition Prep Workshop - Wednesday, 10/2
Auditions for Mean Girls, Jr. are a couple of weeks away, and we know that auditions can be scary and stressful. We encourage interested students to attend the Mean Girls, Jr. Audition Prep Workshop on Wednesday, 10/2, after school (3:05 - 4:00 PM). During this workshop, students will receive the audition packets, judge a real audition, learn about the audition process, and sign up for an audition. Auditions will take place on Saturday, 10/12. Freedom HS 8th Grade Band Night - Thursday, 10/3
Are you going to Freedom next year? If so, Freedom HS is inviting 8th grade students to perform with the Freedom HS Patriot Band at the Freedom-Beca football game, on Thursday, October 3. If interested/available, please fill out the following Google Form as soon as possible, but no later than Tuesday, October 1. Once you complete the form, the Freedom HS directors will send you the music.
IMPORTANT DETAILS
- Report time: 5:30pm
- Report location: Front of Liberty High School
- Bring your music folio we sent your director
- If you need your instrument taken over to the stadium it must be at Freedom by Wednesday, 10/2, in the afternoon.
- Students will be playing the national anthem, alma mater, and fight song with the band during our pregame show, approximately 6:55pm.
- You will be given a Freedom band t-shirt when you arrive at Liberty.
- You will be met with your band buddy, a member of the Freedom band who would probably play the same instrument/equipment as you.
- You will need to stay for the whole game.
- You will play stand tunes along with the band during the game so please look them over before next Thursday, 10/3.
- Bring money for 3rd quarter break if you wish to purchase food. Be mindful we don't allow any food or drinks in the stands where we sit except water.
- You cannot leave the stadium early unless a parent comes in to meet you.
- You will march in with the band next to your band buddy and march out after the game.
- Dress appropriately for the game and the weather.
Lesson Schedule Change

Schedule Change for Freedom-Liberty Rehearsal
The rehearsal for the Freedom-Liberty Game has been changed to Tuesday, October 22nd, during the school day. BASD band students from the 4 middle schools and 2 high schools will rehearse at the BASD stadium to prepare for the upcoming Freedom-Liberty game. Please review the tentative schedule for more information:
Tentative Schedule
- 9:45 AM - Load bus & truck. Depart for BASD stadium.
- 10:00 AM - Arrive at BASD stadium
- 10:30 AM - Begin rehearsal
- 1:00 PM - Outdoor picnic lunch (weather permitting)
- 1:45 PM - Load bus & truck. Depart for Broughal.
- 2:00 PM - Arrive at Broughal. Students report to class.

Mandatory Music Meeting - Presentation
Our first music meeting for the 2024-2025 school year was on Thursday, September 5th, at 7:15 PM, in Broughal's Auditorium! During this meeting, we discussed important information for Broughal Music this year, including fundraisers, performances, trips, and rules & expectations. Instrumental Music Lessons Begin
Lessons will began on Tuesday, September 3. All instrumental music students should have received their first lesson assignments last week, during homeroom. Please note that all lessons take place during the students' Related Arts periods. Early-Morning Rehearsals
Early-morning rehearsals began on Tuesday, September 3. Students should report to the main entrance on Morton Street as early as 6:55 AM but no later than 7:05 AM, on their assigned rehearsal day, based on the following rehearsal schedule:
- MONDAYS: Jazz Band
- TUESDAYS: Orchestra
- WEDNESDAYS: Band, Majorettes, Honor Guard
- THURSDAYS: Orchestra
- FRIDAYS: Band, Majorettes, Honor Guard

Southside Singers Rehearsals
Southside Singers rehearsals started on Tuesday, 9/3! Rehearsals will occur in the Chorus Room, during Homeroom, from 8 AM to 8:25 AM, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Students can sign up for Southside Singers using the Google Form link. You also can access this Google Form on Schoology, on the announcements page. Students MUST sign up again, even if they were in Southside Singers last year.
We welcome all students who love singing, regardless of musical experience or whether or not they believe they have a "good voice." If you have any questions, please contact Miss Putlock (aputlock@basdschools.org).
Handbook Forms Due - Tuesday, 10/1
Like past years, we will be using Google Forms to collect your responses for your Handbook Forms. CLICK HERE to access and complete your forms. If you need paper copies of the Handbook Forms, please contact one of the Directors. All electronic and paper Handbook Forms are due by Tuesday, 10/1. Don't forget to fill out the paper BASD Medical Form (English | Español) in addition to the electronic forms!
Volunteers Needed
One of the most helpful ways to assist Broughal Music is by volunteering! Depending on the event, you'll be assisting and supporting students and directors so that EVERYONE can have a successful, stress-free performance/event! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Mr. Stoltz (astoltz@basdschools.org) as soon as possible and let him know which of the following events you would like to volunteer for:

Matey's Pizza Fundraiser
The Matey's Pizza fundraiser starts on Tuesday, 10/1! Pizzas cost $7.25 each, except for Gluten Free pizza ($9.25 each). Students earn $2.00 per pizza sold. Pizza options include:

- Triple Cheese
- Thick Crust Triple Cheese
- Smoked Provolone & Mozzarella Cheese
- Gluten Free Triple Cheese

Gertrude Hawk Candy Fundraiser
NO MORE CANDY BOXES LEFT!
Our first fundraiser started on Thursday, 9/5, and we have NO MORE boxes left! Check out the following details for more information on our first and one of our most popular fundraisers:
- There are 48 bars in each candy box. Each candy bar costs $2. Students should return $96 to the BMPO. All money and orders were due on Thursday, 9/26.
- For each box sold, students earn $40 towards their Broughal Music account.

BROADWAY TRIP - Back to the Future: The Musical
6 tickets left!
On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the Broughal Music Department will see Back to the Future: The Musical on Broadway, at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City! While in NYC, the students also will eat at the Hard Rock Café. The cost of this trip is $170.00 per person. Tickets are now available to ALL students and chaperones/tag-alongs on a first-come-first-serve basis. To reserve your ticket, students must submit an $85 non-refundable deposit and signed permission slip. Please review the following dates and link for more information. $50 Fair Share Due Thursday, 9/26
The $50 Fair Share was due on Thursday, 9/26. We use this money to purchase music, supplies, clothing, food, and beverages. We also use these funds to pay for transportation, field trips, and various items and events throughout the school year. If you have any questions, please contact the directors as soon as possible.

Want to know how much money is in your child's account and how much money you owe for Fair Share, the Broadway Trip, and the Spring Trip? Check out the Broughal Music website or the following button/link. The document is organized by Student ID number, so make sure you have the ID number ready. If you cannot find your child's ID number, please contact Mr. Stoltz (astoltz@basdschools.org).
Do you know when your next lesson is? Have you been practicing your instrument? Check the Lesson Schedule regularly so that you are prepared for your next lesson. Remember, you need to attend 17 lessons per instrument in order to attend the Spring Trip!
