Practice ACAP Tests will continue this week

Our students will be taking a Practice ACAP Test this week; February 19 - 23. This is to help our students prepare for the Summative ACAP Test in late March and April. 3rd and 5th-grade students will take the English Language Arts and Math practice tests. 4th and 6th Grade students will take the English Language Arts, Math, and Science practice tests. We will have to enforce the Digital Device Policy in the classrooms that are testing. We will have to place any cell phones, smart watches, Fit Bits, calculator watches, or any other device that could capture or give out information on the test outside the classrooms. Your child's teacher will send you the dates that your child is taking the Practice ACAP. Twenty-four hours after your child completes all the sessions for a test, we will receive the results. We will use the results to inform our instruction between now and April.

The PTA Meeting is Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 5:30 PM in the Lunchroom

The PTA will meet at 5:30 PM on Thursday, February 22, 2024, in the Lunchroom. They will discuss the upcoming candy bar fundraiser and a combined East/West 5th and 6th Grades' Glo Party on March 14, 2024 (see below).

Archery Team at Cullman High School on Friday, February 23, 2024 and Saturday, February 24, 2024

Our 4th and 5th grade Archery Team participated in the Guntersville Tournament on Saturday, February 17, 2024. The 4th and 5th Grade team finished 2nd in the Elementary School Division. Congratulations to Tillie H., 2nd Place, Isabella M., 9th Place, and Mattie S., 10th Place, on their performances in the Elementary School Division. Our Middle School Team, which has five 6th-grade students from West Elementary, finished 1st in the Middle School Division. Congratulations to Gabby S. 14th Place and Addie H., 15th Place, on their performances. The 4th and 5th Grade Team and Middle School Team will participate in the Pre-Regional Tournament this weekend at Cullman High School Gymnasium.

Club, Team, and Group Picture Day - Friday, February 23, 2024

We will take club, group, and team pictures on Friday, February 23, 2024. These pictures will go into the yearbook. The following teams, groups, and clubs will have their picture made that morning: Robotics Team, 6th Grade Math Team, West Elementary School Archery Team, Cullman Middle School Archery Team, SGA Officers, and Beta Club.

6th Grade Math Team

The 6th Grade Math Team is finishing up their season this month. They have a tournament at Walter Jackson Elementary School in Decatur on Saturday, February 24, and a combined East/West Elementary Tournament at West Elementary on Saturday, March 2, 2024. The math team will practice on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. We are proud of their performance this year. Thank you to our Math Team Sponsor Mrs. Carver for her hard work.

Cullman City Schools Numeracy Night will be Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Cullman High School, Tillman Hall from 4:00 - 5:30 PM

Cullman City Schools’ math coaches and teachers are excited to host a math night for the students and families of CCPS, EES, and WES on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Cullman High School, Tillman Hall, from 4:00 - 5:30 PM. There will be an informational presentation that shares some FAQs concerning the Numeracy Law, math strategies, and some fun take-away games you can enjoy as a family at home! Join us for a fun night of learning, playing, and snacking! Food trucks will be set up in the CHS front parking lot.

Read Across America Week and Dr. Seuss' Birthday - March 4 - 8, 2024

Read Across America Week and Dr. Seuss' Birthday Week celebration will be March 4 - 8, 2024. We will have local authors present to our students. We will celebrate reading for a lifetime during this week. Cullman City Primary, East Elementary, and West Elementary combined to have the same theme dress-up days for this week. We brainstormed ideas to come up with dress-up days that did not take a lot of extra effort to participate. The Dress-Up Days are: Monday, March 4 - Many Colors Monday, wear as many colors as you can; Tuesday, March 5 - Top Hat Tuesday, wear your favorite hat; Wednesday, March 6 - Wacky Wednesday, wear mismatched socks; Thursday, March 7 - Tame Thursday, wear animal or camouflage print; Friday, March 8 - Future Friday, wear your favorite college gear. We look forward to learning new ideas this week, celebrating reading for a lifetime, and having fun with our dress-up days.

PTA Candy Bar Fundraiser - March 8 - 22, 2024

PTA will have its Spring Candy Bar Fundraiser from March 8 - 22, 2024. A representative will speak to the students on March 7, 2024, in PE. Sales begin March 8 and continue through March 22, 2024.

East and West Elementary Schools Combined Art Show on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

Each March, we have our combined East and West Elementary School Art Show. Mrs. McBrayer, the Art Teacher at both schools, displays a piece of artwork from each student at East and West Elementary School. The art will be displayed on Saturday, March 9 from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the West Elementary School Gym. Please make plans to attend. I think that you will be amazed at the talent of our students and the visual display is so neat. We want to thank Mrs. McBrayer for how she inspires our students to be creative. She works extremely hard to make this show a success.

East/West 5th and 6th Grade Glo Bash on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Cullman Middle School Gym

East and West Elementary Schools are sponsoring a Glo Bash for our 5th and 6th Grade students on Thursday, March 14, 2024. We will send home more information about the tickets, cost, and details on Monday, February 26, 2024. We are requiring one parent to attend with their child. We see this event as an annual event that will bring together our two schools as we move toward Cullman Intermediate School.

After School Tutoring continues

After-school tutoring will continue through March 22, 2024. We have seen great progress in our after-school tutoring program. After-school tutoring is from 3:15 - 4:00 PM. Some students attend on Monday and Wednesday and some students attend on Tuesday and Thursday. Thank you to our instructional coaches, Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Caretti, for organizing the tutoring, and Mrs. Hines from the Central Office for her support.
