Welcome to the final half term of our year together in Year 3. Where has the time gone? We are looking forward to welcoming you to our very special Year 3 assembly on Thursday 26th June at 9:15. This is sure to be a highlight of what looks like a very busy half term! There are more opportunities for you come into school this half term, in particular the Open Afternoon in July. There are also transition events for the children to meet their new teachers in Year 4. Keep an eye on the calendar on our website for dates, times and other details. We are also looking forward to Sports Day and a visit to the Discovery museum to support our learning in History this half term. There will be more information coming to you soon about our visit.
Finally, thank you for all help and support throughout the year. We can't wait to see the continued success of your children as they move through Year 4!

ENGLISH
POETRY— FREE VERSE
Our poetry unit for this half term focuses on ‘free verse’ which means poems without a particular or repeating rhyme and rhythm. We will read and perform poems showing our understanding through the intonation, tone, volume and actions that we use.
NON-CHRONOLOGICAL REPORTS
Following this, we well be learning about the structure and grammatical features of non-chronological reports through reading and analysing example texts before beginning to write our own texts linked to our History topic.

SCIENCE
Plants and lifecycles
In Science, we will learn about Plants and lifecycles. We will be able to identify the different parts of flowering plants, set up an investigation, make predictions and observations and then draw conclusions. Finally, we will examine the role of flowers in the life cycle of flowering plants.
HISTORY
Shipbuilding on the River Tyne
In History this half term, we will be learning about how the River Tyne was used for ship building in the past. We will locate well known shipyards using maps, find out about jobs that people did in the shipyards and some of the famous ships that were built on the Tyne. We will also learn about the part shipyard workers and Ellen Wilkinson MP played in the Jarrow Crusade.
RE - Islam: Key Aspects of the Muslim Faith
We will find out where Islam originated, about special places linked to Islam and about key festivals in Muslim life. We will also learn about symbols in Islam, the Muslim holy book and the main beliefs held by Muslims.
MUSIC - Opening Night
We will learn how to play the recorder, and then create and present a performance!
SPANISH - The family
In Spanish, we will learn the words for different family members. We will be able to describe our own family and also spell words and names in Spanish using the Spanish alphabet.
COMPUTING AND DESIGN TECHNOLOGY - Digital World: Electronic Charms
In Computing and Design Technology, we will be learning how to design and make a wearable ‘eCharm’ using our school’s set of Micro: bits. We will use our Computing skills to program them. Following this, we will design and make a pouch to store them in and use Computer Aidied Design (CAD) to design a ‘Point of Sale’ display which could be used in a shop that sold them.
PSHE - Transition
We will explore and discuss change as we look ahead to the new school year.
PE - Tennis and Athletics
In PE this half term, we will be developing our skills for these sports. Teamwork, communication and cooperation will be themes running throughout the lessons alongside the skill development.
