Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Alleluia! He is risen! As we celebrate the joyful season of Easter, we rejoice in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ—the ultimate sign of God’s love, hope, and new life. Easter reminds us that even in moments of challenge, light overcomes darkness and love is always stronger than fear. May the Risen Christ fill our school community with renewed faith, compassion, and peace. We give thanks for our students, families, faculty, and staff who bring Christ’s presence to life each day through acts of kindness, learning, service, and prayer. As we continue our journey together, may Easter inspire us to be people of hope, to care for one another, and to live the Gospel values that shape our Catholic identity. Wishing you and your families a blessed and joy‑filled Easter season.

Our school is participating in Jump Rope for Heart!

St. Bernadette is proud to be participating in the Heart & Stroke’s Jump Rope for Heart Event starting on April 7, 2026. Students will learn EASY healthy habits and raise funds to support lifesaving heart and brain research. Help us reach our fundraising goal of $ 3 000 by donating or register to create your own fundraising page to share with family and friends. Visit our school’s fundraising page to get started:

Last year our students who raised the most money duct-taped our principal, Mr. Linhares, to the wall and pied him in the face! We had a goal to raise $ 2 000, but surpassed our goal and we raised $ 3 468! What will we be doing this year? Check out our socials starting Monday to find out...

Direction of School Support - Municipal Property Taxes

You can choose how your municipal property taxes support education. By directing them to the English Separate (Catholic) system, you support faith-based learning in our community and have the opportunity to vote for Catholic school board trustees in municipal elections. By supporting Catholic education through your School Support Designation, it helps strengthen and protect publicly funded Catholic education in our community. In Ontario, every property owner and tenant is required to designate which school board they choose to support. This designation determines your eligibility to vote in school board elections and ensures that education funding is directed to the school system you support. In accordance with provincial legislation, school support is assigned by default to the English Public school board unless you actively choose otherwise. All Catholic families and supporters are encouraged to review their current designation and, where appropriate, update it to English Separate (Catholic) to reflect your commitment to Catholic education. Updating your designation helps ensure that your tax support and voting rights align with your intention to support Catholic education in Durham Region. How to Check Your Current Designation Your existing school support designation can be found by:

  • Checking the assessment section of your Property Assessment Notice
  • Checking your last Voter Information Card received during a municipal election year

How to Update Your Direction of School Support School support designations are managed by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC). You can easily review or update your designation by:

Parent Input - New School Prayer

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen our Catholic identity and shared sense of community at St. Bernadette with our upcoming 75th Anniversary, we will be developing a new school prayer that reflects the values of St. Bernadette Soubirous, who we are as a Catholic Learning Community and who we are called to become as children of God. We would like to invite you, our parent and staff community, to add your ideas through this form to help guide this process. Our students are working in their classes to brainstorm ideas as well and are submitting them with their class.  PLEASE NOTE: We are not writing prayers at this time- we are looking for ideas: words, phrases, concepts that we feel should be included in our new prayer.

When formulating ideas, you may wish to consider the following prompts:

  • What do we know about our patron saint, St. Bernadette?
  • What are we thankful for at St. Bernadette School?
  • What do we wish or pray for for our school community?

Please share your ideas on the form below by Friday, April 10 so that we can consider it when writing our new school prayer. Thank you
