Echoes of democracy: A compiled report on the current state of the nation

In an effort to spotlight an issue that impacts our community and generation, the Bark came together to create a collaborative project addressing the current political climate. Reporters from each section of the publication contributed their unique perspectives — whether through news coverage, feature stories, opinion pieces or multimedia content — to build deep, well-rounded coverage of the topic. The goal is to inform, engage and spark meaningful conversations surrounding both topics within Redwood and beyond. Explore each section below to see how different angles and voices came together to tell this story.

Public Policy and Domestic Affairs

“We’re not enemies of the people. We’re working for the people," David Bauder, Associated Press reporter, said.

Political Impact of Social Media

However, when government officials in positions of power, meant to represent America as a whole, abandon character and principle, it silently allows everyone else to act recklessly and disrespectfully to one another, creating an even more divided nation.

Health and Environment

“Our country is on a tipping point for measles to once again become a common household disease,” Nathan Lo, a physician at Stanford Medicine, said.

Economy and Foreign Affairs

Besides claiming the land as the Gulf of America to "restore American pride," the Gulf of Mexico holds considerable economic and geopolitical value to the US.

Education

Teaching special education today is very difficult; a limited number of people want to pursue it, which will continue to decline if teachers don’t feel supported in their environment.

Immigration

"[My parents] were scared that even though I was a resident, [immigration officers] would still try to deport me, because they are deporting people based on their looks,” Sara Hernandez, senior student, said.
