principaL's addreSS

Dear students, parents & guardians,

Welcome to the 2026 school year. We hope the break provided an opportunity for rest and renewal, and we are delighted to see our new and returning students ready to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.

This term has already been filled with exciting experiences, hands-on learning opportunities and memorable moments across our school. We are pleased to share a snapshot of what has taken place during the first half of Term 1 as we celebrate the achievements of our students and staff and look ahead with confidence to a successful year.

During the first week of Term 1, it was fantastic to see how confidently our Year 7 students transitioned from primary school to high school life. They enthusiastically participated in a range of House Group activities and built meaningful connections with peers and teachers. We look forward to watching them continue to grow, develop and embrace all that our school community has to offer.

Our Year 12 School Ball, held on Friday, 13 February, was a memorable way for the Year 12s to begin their final year at high school. The evening was filled with energy, laughter and plenty of time on the dance floor, creating memories that will remain with them long after graduation. Embracing this year’s theme, The Great Gatsby, students and staff brought elegance and creativity to the occasion, making it a truly special milestone celebration.

On Tuesday, 17 February, we welcomed our Year 12 families to a Parent Information Evening. The session outlined key dates, expectations and important milestones for the year ahead. Families also received details about upcoming university visits throughout the term, which play an important role in helping students explore post-school pathways and confidently plan their next steps.

We also held our first whole-school assembly for the year, which provided an excellent opportunity to recognise and celebrate student achievement. At this assembly, we acknowledged our 2025 Year 11 and 12 Award Winners for their outstanding ATAR results, along with students who have proudly represented Western Australia and Australia in competitions and events beyond the school setting.

I would like to again congratulate the Class of 2025 on their exceptional results. Their commitment, perseverance and collective effort throughout the year have truly paid off, and we are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished.

See a snapshot of their results below:

These outcomes are a testament to the determination of our students and the unwavering support and expertise of our staff. Thank you to everyone who contributed to helping our students reach these significant milestones.

It has been a positive and energising start to the year, and we look forward to building on this momentum as we continue to support our students in their academic pursuits and personal development.

Languages

In December 2025, 16 students from Leeming Senior High School embarked on an unforgettable Japanese Exchange Program, getting first-hand experience with the Japanese language, culture and daily life. Travelling through Tokyo, Fuji, Kyoto, Nara and Hiroshima, students enjoyed a rich blend of cultural exploration, school exchange and iconic sightseeing.

Highlights included walking through the striking 1000 torii gates of Fushimi Inari Shrine, an adrenaline-filled day at Fuji-Q Highland, and meeting the famous friendly deer in Nara Park. Students were also captivated by a visit to Miyajima Island, home to the iconic floating torii gate, and delighted in exploring Japan’s vibrant pop-culture scene with Pokémon merchandise proving especially popular!

A major highlight of the program was the stay with host families and visits to our sister school, Hiroshima Kokusai Gakuin (HKG), where students participated in classes, ceremonies and cultural exchanges, building lasting friendships and global connections.

The school community extends sincere thanks to Ms Sgro and Mr Mortera for their outstanding organisation, leadership and care throughout the program. Their dedication ensured a safe, enriching and truly memorable experience for all involved.

This exchange was not only a journey across Japan, but a journey of growth, confidence and intercultural understanding for our students.

Year 10 Health Education: Exploring Physical Health & Wellbeing

This term in Year 10 Health Education, students are exploring the dimensions of health and wellbeing, developing a deeper understanding of how physical, mental, emotional and social health are interconnected.

Week 3’s lesson brought physical health and wellbeing to life through a dynamic, hands-on practical session. Our classroom became a health assessment hub, with students rotating through a range of stations designed to build real-world health literacy skills.

Practical Health Stations

Students worked collaboratively and professionally through the following check-up stations:

  • Vision Testing – Using eye charts to assess visual acuity and discuss how eyesight impacts learning, safety and quality of life.
  • Blood Pressure Monitoring – Learning how to use blood pressure equipment correctly and interpret readings in relation to cardiovascular health.
  • BMI (Body Mass Index) Calculations – Measuring height and weight to calculate BMI, followed by critical discussions about its benefits, limitations and why it should not be used in isolation.
  • Reflex Testing – Exploring nervous system function through simple reflex response checks and understanding how the body reacts automatically to stimuli.
  • Iridology Observation – Examining alternative health perspectives and analysing the scientific validity of such approaches.
  • Tongue Observation Test – Investigating how tongue colour, texture and coating can sometimes provide clues about hydration, nutrition and general health, while also evaluating the evidence behind traditional diagnostic practices.

Learning Beyond the Textbook

This practical lesson enabled students to:

  • Apply theoretical knowledge in authentic contexts.
  • Strengthen health literacy and data interpretation skills.
  • Understand the role of preventative health checks.
  • Critically analyse both scientific and alternative health practices.
  • Reflect on how physical health influences overall wellbeing.

Students approached each station with curiosity and maturity, asking thoughtful questions and supporting one another through the activities. Many were surprised at how everyday health measures, such as blood pressure and hydration indicators, can provide valuable insight into overall wellbeing.

Showcasing Our Expertise in Physical & Health Education

Our Physical and Health Education program goes far beyond physical activity. We are committed to equipping students with lifelong skills to monitor, understand and take responsibility for their health. Practical, evidence-informed learning experiences like this allow students to:

  • Develop confidence in understanding health information.
  • Recognise the importance of early detection and prevention.
  • Make informed lifestyle choices.
  • Connect the dimensions of health and wellbeing in meaningful ways.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 10 students for their engagement, professionalism and enthusiasm throughout the session. Experiences like this highlight the strength of our Physical and Health Education program and our commitment to developing informed, capable and health-literate young people.

Here’s to building knowledge, confidence and lifelong wellbeing!

Library

Once again, it has been a very busy start to the school year in the Library.

We have already had several displays promoting books for students to read and the Year 7s are keen to explore all the different resources available.

The Robotics Club students have made some fantastic spheres and thoroughly enjoyed driving them around the Library. Quite a few of the students successfully created their own spheres.

The Study Smarter Session on Monday after school is specifically to help Year 7s get organised for high school. They can get their device set up properly and connected to the school network; learn to use their diaries effectively and get helpful tips on their time management.

Come along when you feel you need to work on some specific skills or come along each week and use it as a revision and weekly organisation session while learning a few new study tips. Content to be covered on the Monday afternoon will be placed on Compass on the weekend.

The Minecraft Edu Club is very popular with the area packed at lunchtime with students from all year groups. Year 7s will be able to join in Week 5 when they are allowed to come to the Library.

The Chess Club has quite a few new members, which is fantastic. Fresh competition keeps everyone on their toes. Everyone is welcome to come along – If you would like to learn, there are plenty of students keen to become mentors.

What’s happening in the Library?

When everything feels like it’s going wrong, it can feel heavy and unfair. But just like a plane needs the wind pushing against it to take off, challenges can help push you higher too.

The tough moments you face today can build your strength, confidence, and skills for tomorrow. Sometimes, what feels like it’s holding you back is helping you rise.

SchoolTV Update

Whether it is starting school for the first time, moving up to a higher grade or embarking on a journey through secondary school, there is no doubt that any school transition is a very exciting time for children and parents. It means your children are growing up!

However, transitioning is an ongoing process. It can continue long after students have entered their new environment and may encounter difficulties at a number of different stages. These stressors may appear as anxiety and frustration and result in negative or disruptive behaviours. Such behaviours can become problematic making the transitioning process even more difficult for children and parents.

In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will learn practical strategies to assist your child during the transition process and reduce stress and anxiety levels.

You can view the latest Edition here.
