Schools Spectacular this year

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of attending the annual Schools Spectacular at Qudos Bank Arena—a highlight in the NSW public education calendar. This year’s show, titled “Remarkable,” truly lived up to its name, with over 5,000 public school students showcasing their incredible talents.

One of our very own Year 10 student, Mahlee Bowen Piercy, stood out in the crowd as she performed in a stunning piece with the State Aboriginal Dance Company. Our Rural North students were beautifully represented, and it was inspiring to see Mahlee, and others shine on such a big stage.

The production was exceptional this year, with captivating graphics, lighting, and costume design that brought the performances to life. More importantly, it was a proud reminder of the power of public education and the dedication of teachers across the state who make opportunities like this possible.

Learning Journey Interviews

I’d also like to sincerely thank Lachlan McKenzie, Celeste Grennan, and the Learning Journey Team for organising the Year 7 to Year 10 Learning Journey Interviews last week. It was wonderful to see our students confidently taking on the roles of both interviewers and interviewees. This program is fantastic as it encourages students to reflect on their learning journey and helps build skills that will benefit them for years to come. Keeping a record of their progress is valuable not only for scholarships and future job applications but also as a way for families to appreciate how far their children have come.

2025 National Songwriting Competition winner at our school!

Congratulations to Harriet Killips, our school captain, for her outstanding achievement in the Australian Children’s Music Foundation National Songwriting Competition. Her original composition, “I Hate the Piano,” earned her second place in the Year 11–12 category. If you missed Harriet’s live performance at the Year 11 Assembly, I encourage you to listen to her song on the ACMF website.

Congratulations Harriet! She also plays the guitar...
Important update about changes to school enrolment procedures from 2026

The NSW Department of Education is introducing new enrolment procedures starting Term 1, 2026, designed to make access to our public schools easier and fairer for all families. Some key changes include:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students: Enrolments will better recognise cultural connections, community, kinship, and language. Priority can be given for enrolment outside local areas based on cultural or kinship needs, supporting access to Aboriginal language programs and cultural responsibilities.
  • Preschool to Kindergarten: Children attending a public preschool located on the same site as a public school, even if they live outside the local area, will now be a priority when schools consider non-local enrolment requests.
  • Children of Defence Force families: Enrolment processes will be more flexible to support students whose families relocate frequently and may not have permanent housing.
  • Students in out-of-home care or youth justice settings: These students will remain enrolled until a new school place is secured, with applications processed within two school days to minimise disruption.
  • If these updates apply to your family and you wish to enrol your child at our school for 2026, please submit or resubmit your enrolment application, including relevant information about your circumstances affected by these changes.
  • If your child has already been accepted at another school for next year but you decide to enrol with us instead, please ensure you contact the other school to officially withdraw their enrolment. For more detailed information, please visit the Department of Education’s enrolment webpage or contact our school office on 6684 2600 as we’re happy to support you through the process.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership in your young person’s education. As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.
