Good Afternoon MSE Families!! We have a big week ahead of us as student will be taking the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (MSTEP) - Michigan's annual assessment that measures how well students are mastering grade-level skills in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Every MSE Student, regardless of grade, will be testing on April 28 and 30. 6th and 7th grade will test in Reading and Math and 8th Grade will test in Science and Social Studies. It is vital that your student is present in school those days as if they are absent they will have to be pulled from other classes to make up the test which causes them to miss valuable instruction. The results of MSTEP help our teachers, school, and district understand where students are thriving and where additional support in curriculum and instruction may be need. Every student's score matters--not just for them, but for how we shape instruction and resources going forward! Parent support is vital in getting students to relax, take their time, and give their best effort. Here's how you can help as a parent this week:
- Ensure your child gets rest! A good night's sleep helps as a rested brain performs much better.
- Make sure your child eats breakfast on the test day Encourage your child to do their best on the MSTEP!!
- Remind them of the importance, tell them something encouraging anything to help boost confidence!
- Minimize screen time as much as possible this week. Winding down at night without screen helps kids settle faster and sleep more deeply.
- Every student will need their chromebook fully charged and a pair of wired (non bluetooth) headphones.
We want every student coming into this week feeling calm, confident, and ready to show what they know. Thank you for supporting us at MSE! Have a great week! --Mr. MacIntosh

If your child has a parent or guardian who is connected to the US Military, please contact me by emailing at macinza@lc-ps.org and let us know your name and your child’s name by Thursday, April 30th. If you have already done so thank you!!! Thank you for your support as we try to expanding after school programs for MSE Students!
Student Cell Phones
As we are heading into spring students are needing more and more reminders about their cell phones. Cell Phones should be in their student locker during school hours (8:00-3:04) and cannot be used during the school day. Students found in violation of this are subject to discipline. At no time should a student use their phone during the school day to record or photograph other students, those instances will be met with the code of conduct. Please review the cell phone policy signed by all families below:
Dress Code Reminders
Below is information from LCPS Code of Conduct regarding student dress. As the weather warms up in spring it is a good idea to review these items with your child. Please help us with this as students in violation of the dress code will be offered clothes or have to call home for new clothes.
