- A change of places in the team points race!
What a gorgeous week of weather we have enjoyed! The sun has been shining and it has actually felt warm. The summer term is living up to its name đ.
Itâs a bit of a strange half-term with a Bank Holiday week last week and another next week. At least this was a full week! We certainly managed to fill the five days with lots happening.
Probably the biggest event of the week was Tuesdayâs educational visit with Year 3 having a great time at Colchester Castle. Year 4 might remember that last year, when they visited the castle, the coach broke down on the way home. We were left by the side of the road for a couple of hours while we waited for a replacement coach. That was very memorable! Fortunately, nothing like that happened this year. The Year 3 children enjoyed themselves very much and all of the staff who attended said that behaviour was excellent as always. Again, we had other visitors give compliments about the children.
On Wednesday, all of our classes had class photographs taken. As the weather was lovely, the photographs were taken outdoors. The class photographs always make a lovely keepsake. I still have all of my class photographs from when I was at primary school! Amazingly, I can still remember almost everyoneâs names.
Remember that we are closed this Monday for the Bank Holiday. I hope everyone enjoys another long weekend.

PE Kit Reminder
Recently we have seen some children coming in on PE days not wearing the correct PE kit. Please do send your children into school in the correct uniform. As a reminder PE kit expectations are listed below. If you are short of PE kit, please let the office know as we might have pre-loved kit in your child's size. Thank you.
- Black shorts or plain black tracksuit bottoms
- Purple round-necked t-shirt
- Plimsolls or trainersâ (trainers should ideally be black â if not black - a plain colour please)
- Plain black tracksuit tops with no/minimal logos may be worn during colder months (no hoodies or tops with hoods)
Make-up and Nail Polish
A reminder that children must not wear make-up or nail polish to school. Please save nail polish for holidays and ensure it is removed before the return to school.
Naming Clothing
It is that time of the year again where the weather is warming and children are removing their jumpers and cardigans! Please can we request that all clothing worn to school is named. The lost property pile is growing and it is incredibly difficult to return items to their owners if things are not named.

Nursery
The sun is shining and everyone in Nursery is happy. The children love being outdoors and this week they have certainly made the most of it. We have had a range of different toys in the water tray to promote fine motor skills. Different sized bottles and containers, spoons and scoops have been used for filling and pouring. We have also opened and revamped our mud kitchen where the children can explore natural materials whilst engaging in imaginary play. We will continue to develop these areas throughout the term as the children all love to use them.
REMINDER: The Nursery class photo was taken on Wednesday please look out for the leaflet that was sent home with your child on the same day.
Reception
It has been a super week in Reception. The children have enjoyed the sunny weather in our fantastic garden. They have used natural resources to create their own recipes and written them down to make a cookbook. The water tray has provided lots of opportunities for exploring sinking and floating, comparing volumes of containers and keeping us cool! We have read the book Errolâs Garden and spoken to the children about caring for and growing plants. We wrote captions for a range of pictures from the book. Out maths sessions have focused on counting up to 30 items in sets and adding two groups together.
REMINDER: Our school trip takes place on Wednesday 25th June. It will cost ÂŁ14. There will be a letter with all the details in due course.
Our Sports Day is taking place on Thursday 22nd May at 1:30pm.
Year 1
We have had a lovely week again in Year 1. In maths, we have begun to look at multiplication by grouping items to make them easier to count. We have learnt about using arrays to help us with our repeated addition.
In English, we have taken on the character of Lila from our story âLila and the Secret of Rainâ writing diary entries about her life. We had great fun in art this week, we explored mark making with paint. We used things like string, sponges pipe cleaners to see what effects we could create. Great job Year 1!
In RE, we thought about stories and books that are special to us.
REMINDER: Miss Goodwin will be running an information session about the phonics screening check where she will explain how the check is carried out, show some past assessments for you to take a look at, explain how you can help your child prepare for the phonics screening check and answer any questions you may have. There will be two sessions, a morning session 9:00-9:30am and an afternoon session 2:20-2:50pm. These sessions will be held on Tuesday 6th May in the KS1 hall which can be accessed via the KS1 hall door, located between the KS1 gate and the Main office.
Please kindly confirm which of these sessions you will be attending by using the link or QR code below:
Year 2
In English, this week we have written about the incredible animals living in Antarctica. We used research tools to find facts to include in our non-chronological reports. The children really rose to the challenge and wrote using the present tense, connecting their ideas using conjunctions such as but, because and when. We have begun to explore printing in our art lessons and created some Antarctic animal inspired relief prints. We have also begun to create our class VE Day celebration doors ready for the competition next week. We hope that 2S or 2W win the prize!
In maths, we have explored finding quarters and thirds of shapes and numbers, with some rather challenging word problems to solve! The children have now carried out their âGigâ to assess where they should begin their TT Rockstars journey. They can access their account using their Numbots username and password and should play the âGarageâ games to progress through the levels. Regular access to this program will support both the development of their times table knowledge and quick recall of facts.
In geography we have learnt about the seven continents and used an atlas to locate these areas of land on a world map. We listened to a super song which will help the children to recall the names of the continents.
Reminder: A letter about our school trip to Call of the Wild on 19th June was given to each child on Monday. It was also emailed to parents/carers. The children are already excited about this great learning experience. Previous year groups have really enjoyed their close encounters with some rather amazing animals.
Year 3
What a great week!
We started off really eager for our trip on Tuesday to Colchester Castle. Then Tuesday came and we ran into school at 8:15am, buzzing for the day ahead. We travelled to the castle which took a lot longer than we would have liked, but eventually we arrived to complete a jampacked day. We learnt so much in such a little time. We visited the vaults of the castle and all of the history was explained in such an enthralling and captivating way. We are sure some will say the best part of the day was when we sat outside in the glorious sunshine, to eat our lunches!
In the rest of the week we had our class photos taken, started to rehearse our assembly in the hall and wrote about our trip in English. We also finished our topic on fractions this week and will be moving onto a new topic next week.
Boy, how time seems to be flying here in Year 3!
Year 4
A great week for Year 4 this week. In English, we continued looking at poetry. We revised prepositions and wrote preposition poems, and also looked at a fancy, short and sweet style of poetry called âcinquainâ poems, which tested our technical ability in counting syllables and word classes on the lines. Luckily, each poem was only 5 lines long! In maths we continued our learning on decimals and practised writing and representing âtenthsâ in different ways. We also had our times tables check practice this week, which showed good improvements! You will receive a letter today about this with a copy of your child's TT Rockstars 'heatmap'. This will highlight which times tables your child may need to work on to promote their best possible scores for when the test comes round in early June. In our topic work, 4S continued their study on electricity in science, and looked at Pop Art style Lichtenstein word clouds and the Ben Day dots in art. 4G had a great time in outdoor learning, finding out all about survival skills and fire-lighting. We enjoyed marshmallows and pizzas over the fire! It will be the turn of 4S next week.
Year 5
This week, Year 5 students have been immersed in a variety of engaging learning activities. In English, they have been writing scripts for scenes from Macbeth, paying close attention to format and correct punctuation, including brackets for stage directions. In maths, they have continued their work on identifying, estimating, and measuring different types of angles. During Design and Technology lessons, the children were tasked with constructing shapes and structures from various materials, learning how some materials can be reinforced for greater strength and broader applications. History lessons saw the students researching the Battle of Bosworth, gathering key information and making notes for future lessons.
Year 6
This week, we have been looking at using semi-colons and colons in our work. This has reinforced our understanding of writing main clauses and what they need to contain. In maths, we have been going over some skills from across the year to support our understanding. This has included calculating with fractions and using inverse operations to solve problems.
In science, we looked at how a species of animal has adapted to live in their habitat. We looked at how a camel is suited to living in a desert but would need make big changes to be able to survive in arctic conditions. In Geography we have been researching the stages water-cycle ready to create a presentation next week.
In art, we have continued to look at the work of Hokusai; we have use sketching techniques to develop artwork in his style.
Computing
On Monday, Year 6 began their unit on data and information and will be learning how to use an excel spreadsheet this term. Their first lesson was getting to know how a spreadsheet works and how to format a cell (eg date or currency).
Year 4 will be working on collecting data over the next few weeks using a BBC Micro:bit and this week they spent their lesson getting to know the basics of how a Micro:bit works. Many coded their name, a flashing heart or a love-meter! They absolutely loved this lesson.
Online Safety
Staying safe on our roads isnât just a skill â itâs a lifelong habit. It is crucial to learn key strategies for helping children navigate streets safely and confidently, from practising journeys together to teaching them how to choose the safest crossing points.
Weâve collaborated with THINK! to offer real-world advice on issues like the dangers of parked vehicles, reversing cars and mobile phone distractions â itâs an invaluable tool for parents and educators who want to help young people travel independently without compromising their safety.

Attendance
This week four classes received stickers for achieving above 97%; Wrens, 3B, 5L and 5SW. Wrens had a spin of the attendance wheel as a result of their third sticker. The prize? A 30-minute session of playing with toys and games from home. Mrs. Muller and Miss Goodwin will let Wrensâ parents know when this session will be.
Well, well, well⌠we have a change of places this weekâŚ
Over the past few weeks, we have seen a surge from our yellows, and as a result we can announce that Caernarfon have now moved into second. But who is first? Is it still Stirling or have Windsor jumped onto the top of the podiumâŚ.? Well done Stirling! Unlucky Windsor!
This yearâs race for the Friars Cup is probably the most exciting we have ever had. Who knows where it will be heading at the end of the year?
