The town was going off! People everywhere. Trying to purchase water for the hot day ahead was a challenge as we ended up in the middle of a market in full swing. Whilst we really needed to be on the road we couldn’t help ourselves to steal a quick look around and we were pleasantly surprised at how good the stuff was, nothing like the crappy flee markets we so often endure.
The ride out of the town was crazy! So many people of all ages riding towards town and the beaches. This went on for what seemed ages as we then discovered many holiday parks that people were riding in from quite some distance out of town.
We reached our lunchtime destination in the early afternoon in the town of Bayonne. This is a special town as this was the town that we caught the train from to the small village of Saint Jean Pier de Port to start our first Camino 12 years ago! I love Bayonne and its medieval architecture, so a stop was a must and it brought back fond memories from all those years ago.
Our final bike leg was to take us to the old town of Biarritz, but passing one of the beaches along the way, Jenny insisted we stop for a swim even though we were only 3.5km from our final destination.
So a swim we had (and a cheeky nap on the beach) to revitalize ourselves.
And so our biking adventure comes to an end and what an amazing, fun filled, wonderful experience it has been.
In the same way we reflect on the life of Norm whose life adventure has also come to an end. What a wonderful life he has lived. Larger than life, living by faith and his unwavering love of God. He will be missed. His story telling, enchanting everyone who was blessed to be listening… and his laugh! So hearty, so infectious and so loud! We will miss you.
We now have 2 days rest to wash the clothes & prepare ourselves for the next stage of our trip and if the coast is anything like what we have seen in Biarritz, we are in for a marvellous treat!!
