Assistant Principal's Message
The week has finally arrived and we have many excited (and nervous) students, staff and families! Today we have Professional Audio Services organising the lighting and sound and tomorrow is our first full dress rehearsal. St Anne’s students and staff will remain in the hall to watch the whole production during the dress rehearsal and we will also be performing in front of Albury Pre-school children and staff.
Children are invited to wear their sports uniform on Wednesday and Thursday. Can you please ensure all clothing is labelled as they will be changing into their costumes during the day and this will help us ensure all clothing is returned to the correct child.
Friday is Pyjama Day. We anticipate some very tired children attending school on Friday so we are inviting all children to wear their pyjamas or comfortable casual clothes to get them (and the staff) through the day. They are also invited to bring in a pillow, bean bag etc however this is not compulsory.
Thank you to all our volunteers who organised, cooked or served at our Father’s Day Breakfast and stall, in particular Primmie for all the time and hard work she put into coordinating these. It was one of the biggest attendances we have had in many years, which shows the strength of our community. I’m sure you will all agree it was a great way to begin Father’s Day celebrations.
Child Protection Week began yesterday 3rd September and concludes Saturday 9th September. In 2023, the message that ‘Every child in every community needs a fair go’ will be complemented with the theme ‘Where we start matters’. Due to the business of our week we will be exploring this topic in weeks 9 and 10.
On a sad note St Anne’s staff and community would like to send our heartfelt condolences to Holly (year 4) and Courtney (year 2) on the passing of their father Shawn. We ask that you keep the girls and their family in your thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.
Looking forward to seeing you at the production.

Professional Development
Leanne Newth attended two days of ongoing professional maths learning in Wagga on Thursday and Friday last week. It was an opportunity to further examine School and Diocesan MAI (Maths Assessment Interview) data, and delve into the new NSW syllabus outcomes and how working mathematically is embedded into our teaching and learning. Leanne will continue to impart teaching and learning strategies with classroom teachers as we unpack this new syllabus together.

Our Canteen has been extremely busy recently, with orders being up more than 25% this year. If you need to cancel a food order in our regular winter or summer menu (for example because your child is away sick), you will need to cancel your order via the Qkr! App before 9am on the day of service. Orders cannot be cancelled after 9am and will unfortunately be forfeited. In the case of special order days, the order must be cancelled before the cutoff time for orders. Cathie can no longer hold food orders over to future weeks for families, as this is very time consuming in an already busy canteen. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Lion's Public Speaking Competition
The Grand Final for the Lions Club District 201V6 Finals was held recently at Girgarre in front of a large audience of Lions members along with family and friends. The two representatives for the Lavington Lions Club, Oakley and Ethan, were supported by many family members, including grandparents, aunties and uncles.
Both St Anne's students were named as Grand Final Champions, displaying outstanding talent. Oakley won the Junior title for Years 3 and 4 and Ethan won the Senior title for Years 5 & 6. All together the project is a wonderful example of Lions serving the community.
Father's Day Breakfast & Stall
The Fundraising team would like to thank the volunteers who helped make the Fathers Day breakfast and stall happen. These include; Belinda Warner, Lisa Bell-Chambers, Katrina Murray, Hailey Butler, Elle Burnett, Jaclyn Muntz, Tracey Gibson, Louise Fifield, Sarah Finlayson, Linda Charlton, Cassandra Jones, Hayley Creek, Breanna Manek, Ingrid Hopwood and daughters, Tabitha Clancy, Luisa Corrigan, Emily Scammell, Jane Beilby, Cass Burrell, Kristie Fayle, Jess Ryan, Laura Bell-Chambers, Helen Davidson, Jess Keogh, Ronell Howe, Cassandra Manning and Prim Hannaford. Special mention also to staff; Paul Taylor, Jason Hollard, Cathie Kelly, Bec Taylor and Lisa Bauerle for all your help.
It was lovely to see memories made by the kids sharing breakfast with their Dads, Grandpas and special people and to watch them carefully select something special for them to give on Sunday. Without the above volunteers and parent support we wouldn’t be able to create these school memories and foster the beautiful community that exists at St Anne’s.
Book Club
Catalogue #6 was distributed to students last week. Orders are due tomorrow (Wednesday, 6 September). You can preview the catalogue here
Country Fair
Whenever possible, please support these businesses who have generously donated vouchers and goods for our Country Fair.
RE News
Year 5 - Mission Ambassador’s Program
On Monday 11th September, students in Year 5 have the opportunity to be involved in the Mission Ambassador’s Program offered by the CEDWW. Students from Holy Spirit School will be joining us for this session.
Why the Mission Ambassador Program?
We are all called to Mission. When we speak of Mission we speak of God’s Mission. God's Mission has us to make God's loving rule apparent in the world, ...to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). We are the body of Christ in the world today, making His presence real to those around us and making his love felt by those who needs us. In the Catholic Education Charter all of the goals are Mission focused and one in particular stands out for me: "Enable students to achieve high levels of Catholic religious literacy, learning excellence, wisdom and commitment to the Common Good."
A head, heart & hands approach
- Head - A way to deepen missionary awareness and understanding among young people through service learning in action.
- Heart - Opportunities for young people to follow the model of Jesus as a servant leader in their interactions and engagement with others.
- Hands - Enables Catholic Mission to enact service learning by engaging with various school communities in real and authentic action.
Bishop Mark Edwards has encouraged clergy to support this initiative:
In his letter to priests in April 2023 Bishop Mark wrote of Catholic Mission's success in supporting students to speak in Parishes for the people who benefit from mission projects. "There has been positive feedback from parishes and from the young people and another link between the parish and it’s school is often developed."
Sacred Heart Parish - Children’s Liturgies
The final Sacred Heart Children’s Liturgy for this term will be held on Sunday 10th September. These are held in the Sacred Heart Church Hall and children are invited to come forward at the beginning of Mass if they are interested in being a part of this.
Year 5 & 6 Camps
Next term, our Year 5 students will be travelling to Ballarat and our Year 6 students will be going to Canberra. Initial information regarding these camps including costs (and payment plan details) have been shared with parents of these children. Consent and payment are to be made via Compass.
Book Fair
All back-ordered items have now been supplied to students. Happy Reading!
Absences for after-school-care
If your child attends after-school-care and they are absent from school, please remember to advise the care provider. We often have providers waiting/searching for children who are absent from school.
Extended Leave
A reminder to families that if your child will be away for 10 or more consecutive school days (eg. for a family holiday), then you will need to submit an 'Application for Extended Leave'. See the 'Compass Attendance' information towards the end of this newsletter for further details.
Volunteering at school
We are very grateful for the assistance that parents/grandparents provide in our school. Any helpers/volunteers (including canteen, sport, fundraising and classroom helpers) will need to either -
- Provide the details of their Working With Children Check (if they have one). We require full name, date of birth, WWCC number and WWCC expiry date. These details need to be verified before a volunteer can help in our school, so please email this information to the office (sana-info@ww.catholic.edu.au) well in advance.
- Complete a CEDWW Volunteers Declaration and show an identity document (eg. drivers licence). These forms are available from the office. This declaration needs to be completed annually, therefore anyone who completed a form last year will need to complete a new form.
Uniform Shop
Our Uniform Shop is open each Friday from 3-3.30pm. Please email sana-info@ww.catholic.edu.au with your requirements if you can't make that time and we will pass your request on to Luisa to process.
We have lots of good quality second hand uniform items for sale as well as new hats, bags and art smocks.
Qkr! App
Our Qkr! App is the platform that we use to process transactions for our Canteen Orders and some special events, like the School Disco.
Qkr! is an efficient and accurate way of tallying our daily canteen orders and a brilliant time saver when collating and organising our students' lunch orders.
Recently we have had several students report that they have not received their lunch orders, only to find that the canteen has no record of their order. We would suggest that parents check their receipt on the Qkr! App to ensure that their order has been processed for the correct date and for the correct menu items and quantity.
Compass School Manager
Our Compass School Manager is the platform that we communicate with parents about all aspects of their child's school life. Our school attendance, calendar, news feed, student reports, parent teacher conference bookings, event consent/payments and many other services are accessible.
We strongly advise all parents to ensure that they have access to their Compass account on a mobile App or a desktop computer. All parents are issued a username and temporary password when their child is enrolled at St Anne's. If you are experiencing any difficulties accessing your account, please don't hesitate to contact Karon on grimmerk@ww.catholic.edu.au.
Compass Attendance
A reminder that all students who arrive at school after the morning bell at 8.55am, must be accompanied by an adult into our office to sign in on our Compass kiosk. This is a legal requirement and students may not sign themselves in. You will now be asked to provide a reason for the late arrival.
If you are picking up your child during the school day, for any reason eg. medical appointment or early departure, please send a written note in with your child to their teacher with all relevant details. Compass can not be used to notify teachers of early pickups. Compass is only to notify the school of full day absences. If you arrive at school to collect a child without prior notification, please allow extra time to locate your child on the school grounds, especially during break times and when at music, science or sport.
Parents/carers are required to submit an attendance note for any full day absences of their child from school. This can be done in the Compass App or in the Compass portal online. Please ensure you provide all the relevant details for why your child/children are not at school, as any notes added without a comment or details will be recorded as an unjustified absence. Please see the relevant link below for guidance on how to record an absence on the Compass App.
When families take students out of school during the school term for holidays, there are strict legal requirements that need to be met. If a student is going to be absent for up to 9 days, no formal application is required and parents may enter the absence on Compass under the 'Travel' option. If the absence is for 10 days or more, an application is required to be completed by parents prior to travel and approval will be required by the Principal or officials from CEDWW. If the leave is 21 days or more, parents are required to provide an educational plan to the school for approval. Extended leave forms are available from the school office.
