Welcome to The Safety Scoop — ESS Clean’s reimagined quarterly safety newsletter and your go-to guide for staying clean, cautious, and connected.
Each issue brings you practical tips, team highlights, safety reminders, and a few fresh ideas to help keep our associates, our clients, and our worksites safe. Whether you're out in the field or behind the scenes, we’ve got the scoop on what matters most: keeping safety front and center — together.
As part of our commitment to safety, ESS Clean has traditionally celebrated Safety Week each July as a time to highlight safe work practices, refresh our knowledge, and recognize associates who go above and beyond. It’s always been an important moment for our company, but as ESS Clean grows, so does our responsibility to protect the people and places we serve.
That’s why, starting this year, we’re expanding our efforts from one week to an entire Safety Month.
This shift gives us more time to focus on what really matters: building long-term habits, creating space for learning and participation, and making sure every branch and every associate has an opportunity to engage. Throughout the month, we’ll roll out challenges, spotlight best practices, and offer meaningful incentives — all designed to support safe, consistent, high-quality work across our sites.
Whether you’re new to ESS Clean or a seasoned pro, Safety Month is for everyone. It’s a chance to get involved, share your knowledge, and help us make safety something we live, not just something we talk about.

You may have heard about the launch of ESS Clean’s new Safety Committee — but what exactly is it? Why does it matter? And how does it impact you?
ESS Clean has associates working in lots of different buildings, shifts, and cities - even in different states! This can make it difficult to make sure that everyone hears the same message and receives the same support. The Safety Committee helps solve that by brining important safety conversations to every branch and make sure your voice is heard when safety concerns come up.
The Safety Committee exists to promote a safe, healthy work environment for everyone, everywhere. It’s part of our long-term commitment to supporting a proactive safety culture that aligns with our company vision. That means moving beyond simply reacting to accidents and instead focusing on prevention, communication, and consistent best practices across all branches.
Summer brings longer days, warmer weather, and busier schedules — but it also brings new safety challenges. From heat exhaustion to slick floors and chemical storage concerns, the risks might look different, but the goal stays the same: making sure everyone goes home safe. Here are some tips to make sure we continue to provide excellent service to our clients while keeping our cool.
- Hydration is Non-Negotiable: Make sure to take breaks to drink when temperatures swell, even if you don't feel thirsty. Water is the best way to keep your body hydrated - try to avoid sugary or overly caffeinated drinks to maximize each sip.
- Don't Rush: Fatigue and heat often make us want to rush or cut corners, leading to more accidents and injuries. Stick to your normal routine and practice the same level of care as any other season.
- Dress for the Job (and the Season): Never skip required PPE like steel-toed boots, masks, gloves, or goggles. While staying cool is important, staying safe is not optional!
- Watch for Signs of Heat-Related Illnesses: If you feel dizzy, overly tired or nauseated while working, stop and let someone know. Heat-related illnesses can be serious.
This year, we’re going big for Safety Month: more time, more prizes, and more ways to get involved! During the entire month of August, you can earn raffle entries by completing simple, meaningful actions that support a safer workplace for everyone.

Safety isn’t just about reacting to incidents — it’s about preventing them. That’s why we’re introducing Near Miss reporting.
A Near Miss is a close call — when something almost caused harm, but didn’t.
Maybe you slipped but caught yourself, or noticed a cord that nearly caused someone to trip. No one was hurt. Nothing was damaged. But what could've happened, and what happens if we're not so lucky next time? Your job site book will soon include a QR code that, when scanned from your cell phone camera, will take you straight to the new online Near Miss reporting form. A quick, easy way for you to report a time when something could've gone wrong - but didn't! A link to the form is included at the bottom of this newsletter.
Near Miss Reporting Helps Us Be Better:
- Helps us spot hazards and provide a chance to learn and adjust - without waiting for someone to get hurt.
- Supports a culture where people feel comfortable speaking up and looking out for each other.
- Creates accountability around safety. Remember: safety is everyone's job at ESS Clean.
