This week in Science we have been looking at how animals are amazing when it comes to adapting to their surroundings! We explored how different animals are suited to their habitats, thinking about how their bodies and behaviors help them thrive in different environments. The children were fascinated to learn that even the tiniest creatures, like insects, are perfectly designed for where they live!
We also looked closely at what makes an insect an insect. The children discovered that for a creature to be classified as an insect, it must have a segmented body, jointed legs, an external skeleton, and six legs. The children then designed their own insect, carefully thinking about what features it would need to survive in a specific habitat.
The children loved their Mantle lesson this week which saw them become a team of Time Travellers. They used their imagination to journey back in time for a special interview with a visitor from the past. They asked some great questions, showing a real interest in what life was like long ago.
In DT, the children have been experimenting with different linkage systems to create their own moving monsters! They explored how to join pieces of card together in different ways, testing out pivots and levers to see how they could make their monsters move.
The children worked together , sharing ideas and helping each other with their mechanisms. This task was tricky but by the end of the lesson, every child had a brilliant moving monster.
