BBHS Rocks!

Battle of the Bands competition

Over Weeks 6 and 7, BBHS Year 11 VET Entertainment students hosted and managed our second annual Battle of the Bands competition, under the direction of their teacher Mr Tim Baker, and with valuable support from Mr Stuart Black.

6 bands/solo artists from Years 7-12 entered the competition, all wowing the judges with their outstanding and varied musical performances.

The 2023 Battle of the Bands entries were:

  • Bandtams (Year 7)
  • Haruki Perrett (Year 8)
  • Mono (Year 12)
  • Maggots (Year 12)
  • Erin Woolsey (Year 12)
  • Wild Rocket (Year 8)

In the end, 2 finalists battled it out on the outdoor stage - the talented vocalist Erin Woolsey from Year 12 with her moving and emotive pieces where she accompanied herself on piano; and also the Year 8 rock duo Wild Rocket thrashing out their powerful tunes on guitar and drums.

By a very, very narrow margin, Wild Rocket took out 1st place and Erin was awarded 2nd place.

The final concert was held outdoors on the PAC lawn during last Friday’s Mufti Day. The weather was beautiful and students enjoyed snow cones during the show. The Year 12 students sold the snow cones to the students, raising money for their Year 12 2024 formal.

Congratulations to all of the musicians who competed in the Battle of the Bands competition and also a big thank you to the staff judges, the VET Entertainment students, Mr Baker and Mr Black for providing this wonderful opportunity for our school community.

Orientation Day 2023

We welcome our Year 7 2024 cohort!

On Tuesday, it was wonderful to welcome the Year 6 students who will become our Year 7 2024 cohort at Byron Bay High School. Orientation Day started with introductions in the Hall where the students got to meet some of the amazing teachers we have here at our school, including our Principal Ms Marcus and Deputy Principal Mr Lee. Year 6 also had the opportunity to meet their Year Advisor for 2024, Ms Kiddle who is very excited about her new role.

Year 10 Peer Support Mentors guided the students to their activities during the day and helped them make some new friends. These new friendships will be consolidated during Induction Week next year and also on the 7 and 11 Camp.

The students participated in a range of different classes, including Music, Food Technology, Agriculture, Science, PDHPE and Maths. For lunch, students were treated to some live music by Byron Bay High School Year 7 students and Griz our General Assistant cooked up a storm on the BBQ, with the help of the Year 10 Mentors.

It was great to see the Year 6 students enjoying their time at BBHS and meeting new friends from other primary schools.

Overall, the day was a great success! Thank you to all involved... it was a big team effort.

New bell times in 2024

In response to our Curriculum Review we are adjusting our bell times for 2024. We are moving from a 4 period day to a 5 period day.

The adjustments take into account best time for students learning, a combination of long and short periods to accommodate for practical components of lessons, and a break after every lesson. Please review our new bell times below.

Reminders from the Office

Have you registered for your Parent Finance Portal?

Earlier this year, BBHS transitioned to an upgraded School Bytes finance system.

As a part of the upgrade, a School Bytes Parent Finance Portal is now available and allows parents to easily track Statement of Accounts. You can visit the portal at any time to make a payment online, view payment history and apply credit.

If you have not yet registered for the Portal, please use the link below to get started:

Our Early Departure process

Parents are reminded to please send a handwritten note to school with your child if they are leaving early. Your child needs to present your note to their Deputy Principal before 9 am. Once a Deputy Principal has read, approved and signed the letter, the Office will issue your child with a Leave Pass.

The Leave Pass allows students to leave their classroom at the designated time and meet their parent at the gate.

If it is an unforeseen appointment and you have been unable to send in a note at the beginning of the day, we will need you to come to the front office to collect your child. This process can take up to 10-15 minutes as we get your child out of class - so please allow yourself plenty of time.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not accept Early Leave requests via email.

If the person collecting your child is not an Emergency Contact listed in our files, please include the persons name and phone number in your note. The person will need to present some identification at the front office before we can release your child to them. Thank you for understanding our Duty of Care requirements.
