Hello! I'm Kristina Broughton.
I'm a creative designer and marketer in Muskegon, Michigan with over a decade of experience in marketing and graphic design.
Education
Kendall College of Art & Design - Master of Arts in Design
Grand Valley State University - Bachelor of Arts: Advertising & Public Relations
Muskegon Museum of Art Rebrand
The Muskegon Museum of Art was established in 1912, beginning a legacy of art and culture in the Muskegon community. The museum recently opened a $15.6M expansion to address the growing collection and to attract global audiences. Part of the expansion involved a refresh of the brand identity to prepare the historical brand for the next generation. I had the honor of leading this rebrand project from research phases to driving the creative direction.
Exhibition Design & Marketing
John Steuart Curry: Weathering the Storm was a fine art exhibition showcasing the tragedies and triumphs of an iconic American artist. With new research discovered about his life, the Muskegon Museum of Art curated and organized an ambitious exhibition telling the story of John Steuart Curry's life. I had the pleasure of leading the design and vision of the exhibition space, the catalog, merchandise, and a national marketing campaign. The exhibition gained global attraction with thousands of visitors from 46 states and 22 countries.
Social Media
Social media is an opportunity to tell a story, connect with people, and build a community around your brand. I've managed social media accounts for both small and large brands across a diverse range of industries. My philosophy and mindset toward social media marketing is "Social media is intended to be social, not a digital billboard", so have fun with the content and use it to relate to your target audience.
Michigan State University
Over the course of the 2017 college football season, I partnered with Michigan State University Football to help run one of their most popular social media campaigns, the MSU Spartan Pet of the Game. I created everything from promotional graphics for social media, digital stadium displays, magazine ads, email blasts, and website banners.
I also managed the entire campaign by keeping engagement up, tracking analytics, scheduling posts, and communicating with weekly winners.
Campaign Strategy & Design
As a part of the "Of Course You Can" campaign at Muskegon Community College, our goal was to generate a sense of belonging and confidence throughout campus. I developed the idea and designed these giant name tags with words of encouragement and placed them along all of the sidewalks leading to campus buildings. Students loved them and quickly shared them on social media.
Marketing Campaign Video
Partnering with the local tourism bureau, Visit Muskegon, I designed a regional digital billboard campaign promoting the art museum during the spring of 2025. This impactful campaign drew attention to Muskegon from major regional cities such as Chicago, Grand Rapids, and Holland.
Website Design
Muskegon Community College
MCC's campaign landing page was created specifically for mobile users. Our research revealed 98% of prospective students use a mobile device to access and research colleges. In developing this page, I worked with a range of teams to create an accessible landing page that made the enrollment process easier for prospective students.
Other Work
I also teach evening college classes in graphic design and digital marketing. In fact, I developed an entire accredited Digital Marketing degree program at Lake Michigan College in 2022.
Here are the classes I teach on a rotating basis:
• Muskegon Community College: Introduction to Illustrator
• Muskegon Community College: Introduction to Photoshop
• Lake Michigan College: Digital Marketing
• Lake Michigan College: Social Media Marketing
• Lake Michigan College: Digital Analytics
