At Realms High School, we have been part of the EL Education Network since our opening. EL Education is a national non profit partnering with schools around the country. The goal: to transform public schools into hubs of opportunity for all students to achieve excellent, equitable outcomes and apply their unique genius to the world!
AT REALMS, OUR ACADEMIC APPROACH IS...
RIGOROUS.
RELEVANT.
RADICAL.
Rigorous.
Our classrooms are dynamic environments where students are active participants in the learning process. Students investigate, discuss, note take, collaborate, research, build connections, apply learning, revise their work, set goals, and present to peers and outside audiences often!
Students at RHS can select honors level classes, AP classes, and dual credit college level classes as part of their schedule.
AP offerings include Environmental Science, AP Government, AP Art, as well as AP Physics, Human Geography, and Psychology on the way. We offer Writing 121 on our campus as well as opportunities for many of our Juniors and Seniors to take a class on the COCC campus as a part of their RHS schedule!
At RHS, we place a strong emphasis on College and Career Planning. All students work closely with their Crew teacher and our School to College and Career Specialist to research, plan for and apply to the post secondary pathway of their choice.
As a part of their "Crew" class, students complete college applications, financial aid and scholarship applications, have the opportunity to explore careers and participate in internships.
OUR ACADEMIC APPROACH:
RELEVANT
OUR ACADEMIC APPROACH:
RADICAL
Learning that often goes "outside" the covers of a textbook.
In addition to "traditional academics", RHS students engage twice per year in "Intensives". Intensives are week long, single subject, deep dive courses that are highly experiential and involve opportunities for adventure, skill building and career exploration.
Curriculum that encourages students to become leaders of change.
RHS students here present to the Bend City Council advocating for a climate action resolution. Students often complete work that has an impact in our community and an authentic audience. This drives students to pursue standards of excellence.
At Realms High School, much of our curriculum encourages the exploration of themes related to social justice and environmental stewardship.
Service Learning: Students and staff are strengthened by acts of consequential service to others
One of our primary functions is prepare students to learn from and be of service to others. RHS student have opportunities throughout the year to complete meaningful service projects - actively acting as leaders of change.
SCHOOL CULTURE AT RHS:
We Are Crew, Not Passengers
Our Students - Leaders of Their Own Learning:
Students at Realms are looking for a high school experience where learning comes to life through interaction, collaboration and challenge... both inside AND outside the classroom.
Students take ownership of their learning, progress and grades through a class called Crew. Twice per year, students lead a 40 minute analysis of their growth during Student Led Conferences.
Seniors complete and present a significant Senior Project as a part of the culmination of their high school experience.
Enrollment:
Small Enrollment = Large Impact: Realms High School is intentionally small, just 200 students. As a small school we build strong relationships, students know each other and their teachers well, and as a school, we keep students at the center of all our decision-making. This allows our students to have a strong voice and role in the direction of the school and of their classes. It allows students to be leaders of their own learning.
