Weekly Newsletter 29th November 2024

Welcome to QRA Weekly!

Good afternoon to everyone in our Queens Road community

Visitors to school will notice we've had a bit of a makeover in the entrance area of school! It looks brilliant and I'd like to thank the wonderful Julie Tallant for her work in helping set the tone for our school. We want school to be a warm, inviting place and I think the tone has been set very well. We've got a couple of finishing touches to make, but I hope you agree it's looking fantastic.

I had the absolute pleasure of teaching Year 2 for an hour yesterday and very briefly in Year 5 on a couple of occasions this week! Year 2 were learning all about algorithms by using Beebots, and Year 5 showed me their reading skills as well as their arithmetic ability this morning. What really struck me on both occasions was the brilliant behaviours for learning. It's clear that the children at Queens Road really value the time they spend in the classroom - the inquisitiveness, the politeness and the eagerness to learn is clear to see! This speaks volumes about the way our staff have set high expectations for the children and it's a pleasure to see it.

Don't forget that our parents meetings are next week. This starts on Monday with Year 3, before Year 4, 5 and 6 have theirs on Wednesday and EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 have theirs on Thursday.

One other thing to draw your attention to are the fantastic resources at https://www.ruthmiskin.com/parentsandcarers/ for parents of children who have phonics lessons. The teaching of reading is very different to what parents will have experienced themselves in school, so this is worth looking at!

Thank you for your support as always, and have a great weekend.

eSafety guidelines

The current guidelines on Social Media use are as follows:

Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter): Users must be at least 13 years old.

WhatsApp: Users must be at least 16 years old.

YouTube: While there's no age restriction for watching videos, users need to be 13 or older to have their own YouTube account, enabling them to subscribe to channels, like videos, post comments, share content, and flag inappropriate material.

It's important to note that these age limits are based on data protection regulations rather than content suitability. Therefore, even if a platform permits users aged 13 and above, the content may not always be appropriate for younger audiences. Parental guidance and supervision are crucial to ensure a safe online experience for children.

Parental guidance can be found at: https://saferinternet.org.uk/guide-and-resource/parents-and-carers

Please do all you can to ensure that children are only accessing age appropriate material online at home.
