Headteacher's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
The second week back in school for the pupils has again been very positive. The Children and Young people of SJV are familiarising themselves with the new build and, I feel, embracing the new resources and facilities we have been provided with really well. The KS4 cohort, who last week were at Calvert Trust, have certainly settled back into school well and quickly into routines that we have established in the new building. This certainly bodes well for the remainder of the school year and the next phase of building activity .
We continue to take advantage of a wide range of enrichment opportunities that we source or are invited to and this continues to help bring learning to life for so many of our pupils. Class one have had an overnight residential at the Wingate Centre in Nantwich this week and we also accepted an invite to bring 15 pupils to a special music event and workshop by the Halle Orchestra in Manchester, on Wednesday. I know both experiences were excellent and facilitated fantastic opportunities for our pupils to build further resilience and independence. Well done to all involved and thank you to the staff who organised and supported these really important events.
Can I remind you please that we have rearranged the annual Parents Evening for Tuesday, May 20th from 4.30pm to 6.00pm. This will provide you with a opportunity to meet with the teachers and staff to discuss the progress in learning made by your child, since last September. The evening will also provide a great opportunity for you to have a look around the new school to see the amazing facility we have been provided with. Please keep the date in your diary and make every attempt to attend. Additionally, we are preparing for parents 3 x 15-minute workshops on key areas of school business, which will be led by senior staff from 4.45pm. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 20th May.
Best wishes for the weekend,
Mr A Moloney, Headteacher

- Do not give children nuts or nut products in their packed lunches.
- Do not give nuts, nut products or snacks/bars containing nuts for break time snacks.
- Do not send cakes or food items, containing nuts, in to school for birthday celebrations, cake sales or events.

Our Catholic School
Our prayer focus this week:
'Dear young people, Jesus is counting on you to be his friends and witnesses to his infinite love.'
- Pope Francis
I hope you enjoyed the long Bank Holiday weekend, I certainly welcomed the extra time at home. We are all enjoying getting to know our new school building and wonderful new facilities.
Within our Catholic school this week, we have continued celebrating weekly Mass as a school community, both staff and students as well as our Chaplaincy team and staff reflections. We are always so busy!
The Chaplaincy GIFT team are busy with their weekly task list of jobs which include leading prayers, ensuring that staff and student intentions for Mass are filled in and brought back ready for Fr. Nick.
Within RE this week, in Key Stage 3 we have been looking at the gifts we receive from the Holy Spirit. The upper Key Stages have been reflecting on marriage, peace and conflict.
A message from Fr Nick
As many of you may have seen, on Thursday evening, the new Pope was elected; Pope Leo XIV. Born Robert Francis Prevost, Pope Leo XIV is the first American Pope to lead the Roman Catholic Church.
Let us pray,
O God, who in your providential design willed that your Church be built upon blessed Peter, whom you set over the other Apostles, look with favour, we pray, on Leo XIV our Pope and grant that he, whom you have made Peter's successor, may be for your people a visible source and foundation of unity in faith and of communion. Amen.

Autism and Poetry
Here at SJV we think it is so important to connect our pupils to the work of neurodivergent writers and poets. The great Australian poet Les Murray said his autism shaped his poetry; Murray’s poems offer us insights into this creative process.
The unique differences in word association that autistic people experience is one reason that Les Murray identified autism as “the part of my brain, which is mostly the part my poetry comes from”. Being autistic enabled the intimate relationship with detail and uncommon relationship with the world that are characteristic of Murray’s poetry, but his autism often went unacknowledged when his poetry was interpreted.
Murray was a dedicated Roman Catholic and his poems often refer to Catholic themes. In this week’s poetry news, we are sharing his beautiful and searching poem Poetry and Religion:
