Highlights of the week
Dear Parents and Carers, It has been another incredibly busy and rewarding week here at school. Our pupils have thrown themselves into some fantastic learning experiences, both inside the classroom and out in the wider community. Here is a roundup of what we’ve been up to, and a look ahead to next week.
📚 Word Play Week & Author Visits
This week, we celebrated Word Play Week in partnership with our wonderful local Kings Heath bookshop, How Brave is the Wren. It has been an absolute joy to see the children inspired by the world of stories. We were incredibly lucky to host five visiting authors over the course of the week. Every single year group got to experience a special assembly led by an author, bringing reading and creative writing to life in a really memorable way.
🕌 Year 4 Visit Birmingham Central Mosque
As part of their Religious Education (RE) curriculum, our Year 4 classes visited the Birmingham Central Mosque this week. The children showed fantastic curiosity and respect. It was a good opportunity to support their classroom learning with real-world experience.
🌳 Year 3’s Village Adventure
All of our Year 3 pupils travelled out of the city this week to visit a school in a contrasting village location. This trip gave the children a brilliant opportunity to compare different environments and see what school life is like in a rural setting. They represented our school beautifully!
🎒 Looking Ahead: Year 6 Residential Trip
Next week is a huge one for many of our Year 6 pupils, who will be heading off to a residential outdoor adventure centre near the Malvern Hills for three days. We know they are going to have an unforgettable time tackling team challenges and outdoor activities.
A quick reminder for Year 6 parents:Please ensure all final packing lists and medical forms are sorted over the weekend ahead of departure.
☀️ Wishing You a Great Weekend
The weather forecast is finally looking up! I hope you all manage to get outside and enjoy the improved weather over the weekend with your families. Thank you for your continued support
Mr Gale
3O and 3P went on their village trip this week. They visited Suckley School in Worcestershire and carried a whole host of activities including a walk up the Suckley Hills and Forest school tasks. They interviewed the children and found out what life was like in a village school in comparison to Colmore.
Today was the turn of 3C to visit a village school. They went to Tardebigge First School in Worcestershire. They had a walk along the canal and watched a narrow boat as it moved through the locks. They also met the year 3 children and found out all about the similarities and differences between their school and ours. They had a great time in the forest school and made lots of new friends.
Seven Y3 boys took part in a friendly football festival at Wheelers Lane on Wednesday evening. Each player showed excellent teamwork skills and real resilience. It was great to see them make such progress over only a few matches. Well done boys!
Our Summer fair is creeping ever closer! Please support our school by clicking on the link above to buy raffle tickets, donating prizes and jam jars and of course joining us on the day!
Colmore Junior School will be having French morning on Thursday 18th June to celebrate the fantastic work our children have been producing in their language lessons this year. Children are invited to pay 50p to dress up for the day. They can choose the colours of the French flag (Red, White and Blue), a famous French speaker, or something they have learnt to say in French. Money raised will be put towards the school fund. During the morning children will be exploring French culture and taking part in traditional activities and games.
