Barcelona & Farewell SPAIN

24 June 2025

Well it’s time to say farewell to another adventure packed holiday and face the realities of the real world (that’s if we get home on time and in one piece!). We’ve enjoyed being completely disconnected and only in recent days, tuned in due to the potential impact it may have on our flight home.

It’s been 12 years since we last visited Barcelona and in a nice way it still feels much the same as before. Ok, so the Sagrada Familia has made some decent progress over the last 12 years and that included no construction during COVID! We spent close to half a day spellbound by Gaudi’s life’s work on Barcelona’s Basilica and the experience was as good as the first time!

Our few days in Barcelona also coincided with Sant Joan day, which meant a lot of drinking, loud crackers and fireworks throughout the night followed by a public holiday to sleep it all off. Mostly, it’s a celebration of the longest day of the year being the summer solstice (although a few days late, but hey, who’s counting?)

We also squeezed in a food lovers tour on our arrival. I thought I had booked a wine and tapas tour, but by the time we arrived in Barcelona, we were already very familiar with both Tapas and Pintxos,. Luckily it was more focused on Spanish food and up market Tapas, so it turned out to be excellent and 4 hours later, we couldn’t fit another thing in!

Our last day in Barcelona was spent with a trip out to Montserrat, a mountain range with a monastery built high up in the mountain and includes the remains of a number of hermitages. Whilst the temperatures was well above 30, we still managed to hike some of the upper trails in the mountains before returning back to Barcelona for our final tapas and Sangria.

Thanks for sharing in our journey and until next time… Adiós!
