Project Brief

The assignment involves creating two company logos using the Quadradius Method through a structured process. First, students choose two animals with positive attributes and list these traits. They gather visual research on these animals, including photos, illustrations, and poses, then sketch six logos on grid paper—three for each animal using specified shapes. Next, they create a company profile for each logo, highlighting traits like regal, playful, or powerful. After approval, students scan the final two logos, convert them to digital format, and add type and colour to match the brand identity. Each logo is made in two versions with different typefaces and colours, resulting in four logos. These elements will be utilized for stationery, a website, and three other branded items. Finally, all project elements will be integrated into a comprehensive digital and print presentation layout.

Learning Objectives

The objective of learning the Quadradius System is to enable individuals to simplify the representation of animals and transform them into corporate symbols using a Swiss method that emphasizes precision and creativity. This system requires students to construct animal figures on graph paper, utilizing 1/2" squares, with shapes that must be easily recognizable as the intended animal. Students will engage in the design process by thinking about positive and negative space, using black or white shapes, and incorporating outlines or 'eye circles' as needed. The ultimate goal is to refine these designs for application with one or two colours in subsequent steps. Success will be evaluated based on accuracy, creativity, refinement, the design process, and the overall quality of the final pieces.

Project Reflections

Creating a logo during the five weeks of working on the Quadradius System project was challenging and eye-opening. It helped me get better at simplifying animal images into business symbols. At first, it didn't seem very easy, but as I worked on it, it became more satisfying. I learned how to balance the empty and filled-in parts of the designs so they still looked like the animals. One of the most complex parts was keeping the designs simple while still showing the essential features of the animals. I could plan and prepare for my project by following a set way of doing things. It helps me better understand how things fit together and create different but recognizable symbols. The things I had to help me were essential, and I added some extra lessons on design rules. Getting feedback from other people helped me make my designs better. I found Adobe Express easy to use because of its similarity with Canva. I liked how easy it was to work with and how the final results looked. This experience showed me how important it is to keep designs simple, and it will help me with future branding and picture-making projects.
