Reed & Cheyenne

Dear Birth Parent,

Thank you for taking the time to read our profile. We can't begin to imagine how difficult of a decision this is that you're making. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you discern this decision. God led our hearts to adoption and we are confident that He will bring us together as a family if that is His will. We are excited to have an open adoption, because it gives us a chance to have a relationship with you, if you desire, and allows the baby to know their full identity.

Below, you will see who we are as a family, and learn a little about us. Please know that we are praying for you and the baby. We look forward to hearing from you.

Saint Joseph, Patron of Families, pray for us!

Meet Cheyenne

As a child, my dad always said I had the cutest high pitched voice. I liked to hide things (including myself), carry around my stuffed monkey, play with my siblings, and read books. Reading is my #1 hobby. I also really like to eat fruit, so this outfit was fitting. Watermelon, specifically, is my favorite. I used to think my grandma "made" watermelon! A few words to describe me would be gentle, passionate, goofy, conscientious, and empathetic.
My favorite animal (besides dogs) is horses. I think they are so beautiful, intuitive, gentle, and majestic. This photo was taken when my grandma gifted me with "horse camp" for a week one summer. That was my favorite horse and I still dream of owning a horse like that someday.
This photo shows how rad my parents are! They had three kids within 6 years. My sister, Madison, is full on screaming. My younger brother, Lake, is looking adorable in the front. I think I was probably talking or something, being the middle child. This is us at an Easter Egg Hunt in the city where I grew up. One distinct thing about my family is that we did everything together. A value that I would love to pass on to my future children, too.
My favorite memories from childhood come from the time spent with my grandparents. This is my grandma Kathy, who passed away in 2018. She was the best cook, really funny, and understood me on a deeper level. I really valued learning from both sets of grandparents and spending so much time with them. I'm excited to cook her recipes for my kids someday.
My other favorite memories from childhood revolved around my favorite sport, softball, which I started at age four. My grandpa played, my mom played, and then she taught me. I played outfield, specifically center-field, but enjoyed infield too. I loved working hard, learning the techniques, and having teammates. Softball taught me a lot of valuable life lessons and things about myself too!
My love for the sport has never stopped and the best part has been playing with my husband now. We get to make new friends in the city we live in, enjoy the summer sun, and get some exercise. It's my favorite part of the year!
My biggest accomplishment is being a first-generation college student, meaning I am the first person in my family to obtain a bachelors degree. I double majored in psychology and criminal justice. I spent an additional two years getting a Masters degree in criminal justice as well. Perseverance, hard work, and tenacity are some of my strengths and the six years of college were definitely worth it.
Now, as a full on "adult", I have found a new hobby of planting flowers and gardening. My husband gifted me this statue of Momma Mary for my birthday this past year. Even though my degree is in criminal justice, my full time job is at our parish, working with new people as they join the Church. It honestly isn't the path I imagined, but it is the perfect career for me and gives me great joy bringing people closer to God. It has taught me that God always knows the best path, especially when I don't.

Meet Reed

I grew up in a small town in southern Kansas and always dreamed of being a cowboy, specifically a sheriff. I enjoyed watching western movies, animal planet, and playing sports in my early years. This photo was from a family vacation to Branson, Mo at a saloon old time photo shoot with my family.
I have always had a love for animals, I wanted a puppy for years. I saved up my money and found someone selling Golden Retriever puppies near me. I talked my parents into letting me get my first dog, Easton. Although Easton is no longer with us, he showed me what a man's best friend truly is.
My mother loves getting family photos taken every few years, like this picture of me with my mother, father and sister. My mother always wanted us to have matching outfits for photos.
From an early age my father taught me to have a love for the outdoors. I started hunting with my father in the 3rd grade and haven't missed a deer season to this day. Although we no longer live in the same town, I make it a point to take a trip back to hunting camp (my parents house) every year. My father enjoys going out to the woods and trying to chase down big bucks with me.
Growing up my family made it a point to take a fishing/camping trip every year. My cousins, uncles and granddad would all join in. We would spend multiple days fishing during the day and running trout lines at night. This photo is of me holding the prized 53 pound flat head we caught on our trout line one year.
Sports were a huge part of my life growing up. I participated in football, basketball, wrestled, golf, baseball, track and field and soccer throughout my life. I feel like playing sports as a young kid taught me many life lessons. Sports helped shape me into the man I am today. Football was my favorite sport; the brotherhood on my team was more like a family than a team. We had a team breakfast every week before studying film and having games in the evening. These are some of my favorite memories from sports.
In 2019, I graduated from college with my bachelors degree in criminal justice. I have always been someone who struggled in school, so receiving this degree was one of my greatest accomplishments to date.
This photo is of Tikka and I before one of my first shifts as a police officer. I have been a law enforcement officer since 2020. I absolutely love what I do and believe that it is a calling from God. I currently am a patrol officer who responds to 911 calls. I feel as if God has given me a gift to assist people who are in a crisis. I have found a love of helping people find a light on their darkest days.

Meet us

Reed and I never thought that we would meet our future spouse at our job in retail. Initially, we worked together and briefly met one time. A year later, we ended up in the same class in college and sat by each other because we recognized each other. After a few months of friendship, Reed asked me out and eventually asked me to be his girlfriend using sign language, which was a class I was taking at the time. I think this highlights how thoughtful he is, because he took the time to learn that and practice it before asking me.

In August of 2020, we planned to take our first real vacation together to Texas. Months leading up to this trip, I made the decision to propose to Cheyenne while in Texas. Knowing that Cheyenne is a big fan of The Lion King and Africa I located a "drive-through Safari" in Texas. I took Cheyenne to the Safari and we stopped at the half way point, a peak of a large hill that overlooks the Giraffe plains. I told Cheyenne that we should get a photo together. Little did she know, I called ahead and arranged for a park employee to take our picture. As it was pouring down rain, I got on one knee and asked Cheyenne to marry me.

Our wedding day

Reed and I were very blessed to have a beautiful wedding day with family, friends, and the Lord. We took months of marriage prep classes with our priest and celebrated our marriage in the Catholic Church on a beautiful Fall day in November 2021. We truly view our marriage as a Sacrament, a way that God works through us to help us become Saints. In our short three years of marriage, we've learned that we need God at the center and call upon Him to give us grace and strength that the Sacrament provides. Having Reed as my forever partner is the biggest blessing.

Our Honeymoon

Cheyenne and I have always loved taking road trips together. We've both dreamed of exploring national parks and seeing all the beauty our country has to offer. For our honeymoon, we decided to take a road trip through Colorado to Utah. We spent multiple days in Moab, UT seeing the national and state parks. We also both love riding horses and plan on purchasing land in the future so we can have our own horses. We decided that on our honeymoon, horseback riding was a must. We did a horseback ride on the property where multiple John Wayne movies were filmed. We then did a guided UTV ride through the beautiful terrain of Moab. We then drove west and did a slot canyon tour (see bottom right photo above) before visiting an animal rehabilitation center that had a massive amount of horses. We then drove south into Arizona, where we visited the Grand Canyon for a day. After experiencing all that the Grand Canyon had to offer, we started our drive east to head home. We made a stop in Albuquerque, NM for a night and went to a couples spa day before working our way back to Kansas. Cheyenne and I have a goal to pay off our debt by the time we are 30 years old, so we spent over 20 hours listening to Dave Ramsey while we were driving. The Ramsey team teaches people how to pay off their debt quickly and become financially secure. Our love for adventures and national parks has grown even more because of our amazing honeymoon. We plan on taking our future child to many national parks across America to share our love for them.

Our current family

We currently live in a small suburb of the Wichita area. Our community is quiet and reminds Reed of the small town where he grew up. It is so peaceful and reminds us to slow down and enjoy life. Our home is nestled in a neighborhood near a beautiful park. The park is within walking distance and has many amenities like a fishing pond, walking path, basketball court, splash pad, and a disc golf course. When we bought the house, we immediately started dreaming about taking our kids to the park someday. Our home is a small 3 bed, 1 bath cozy ranch style house. When you walk through the front door, you immediately feel at home, once you make it past our extremely loving dogs. In May of 2022, we built a privacy fence around our large backyard, which Cheyenne has since decorated with flower pots, patio furniture, a canopy and lights. Renovating our home has been an enjoyable hobby for the both of us and we love making it cozy, beautiful, and serene.

Our sweet girls, Tikka & Sarabi

Tikka is our 4 year old all black German shepherd. Reed adopted her when his golden retriever, Easton, passed away. We were engaged at the time and Tikka quickly learned to protect us both. She loves children and often licks their toes! Her favorite thing in the world is to play fetch with her special ball.
Sarabi (named after Cheyenne's favorite movie, The Lion King) is our two year old Doberman. She might look a little different because her ears aren't cropped. We left them floppy to match her personality! We adopted her when Tikka was 2 years old and they are the *best* of friends. Her favorite thing in the world is to cuddle and take naps.

Reed's Family

This photo of my family includes my parents in the middle, my sister and her husband on the far right and my nephew in front. My parents have been married for over 30 years and have always been a great example of marriage to me. My sister and her family live about 15 minutes from us in the next town over. We love being able to spend time with my nephew and value having him so close. My parents live about an hour away from us, but they come to visit multiple times per month. My parents are very involved in my nephews life and have expressed how excited they are to love on another grandbaby. My family has shown me how important it is to get together for the holidays. Every year, we make it a point to celebrate as many holidays together as possible. Some of my best memories from my childhood are from celebrating Christmas at my grandparent's house with over 100 of my aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Cheyenne's Crew

Pictured here are my parents, with my younger brother on the left and my older sister on the far right. Since this photo was taken, my parents have celebrated 30 years of marriage! In addition, my sister and her husband have been married for 4 years and have given us two nieces/nephews. We really enjoy spending time with our family and try to see them once a month, although they live 2 hours away. My parents taught us several important values growing up including hard work, perseverance, kindness, and the importance of loving each other. My favorite memories with my family were spending every weekend at both of my grandparents houses. Saturdays were with my dad's mother and brother, and Sundays were Mass and lunch with my mom's mother. This experience growing up taught me the importance of learning from my grandparents and spending quality time with family, which is my top love language now.

Our health is our wealth

When I was a freshman in college, I was diagnosed with a chronic autoimmune disease called Hashimotos Thyroiditis. The doctors gave me a medication to "fix" my thyroid, but it is essentially a band-aid that doesn't alleviate any of the symptoms or secondary issues associated with it. A year later, God revealed a different path to me, which is naturopathic medicine. This includes dietary changes, lifestyle changes, and supplements to truly fix the root cause of the body. This way of life has truly changed my health and made me feel 95% better everyday. It is definitely a journey that never stops, but has led me to some amazing people, resources, and products. When I met Reed, he helped me start this process and has since adopted the same lifestyle. Even though we have been on this health journey for about 6 years, there are still some missing puzzle pieces that led to our challenges with having a baby. We took it as a sign from God to open up our hearts to other ideas that He might be leading us to, which is how we decided on adoption. We are excited to start our family and understand the beauty of open-adoption. In addition, with Reed's career, we have found physical exercise just as important, and he has built a home gym in our garage! As a family, we prioritize our health and invest in it. We believe our health is our wealth. We are very excited to extend this to our children and introduce them to a healthy lifestyle.
